Sears: Club Has Shown Faith in Me
Wednesday, 31st Jul 2019 23:56

Striker Freddie Sears says the club has shown faith in him by offering a new contract while he is sidelined with a long-term injury.

The 29-year-old, who is out until November having suffered an ACL injury at Norwich in February, signed a new deal which runs to 2021 earlier today with the club having an option for a further season.

"We've been in talks for a while, probably since January or February time, so I'm delighted to have signed the new deal," Sears told the club site.

"I was in my option year and when that's the case you want to get something sorted as soon as possible.

“I don't think my situation, in terms of being injured, helped me or the club but I'm pleased it's sorted.

"The club has shown faith in me by offering me a deal while I'm sidelined.

"I will continue to focus on my rehab and try to repay that faith when I return. I'm desperate to get back fit and do the best I can for Town."

Great we look forward to seeing you add to our promotion push when you are fit and ready, hopefully in November . Love to see more of you in a central role rather than stuck out on the left. Fingers crossed that all goes well for you.....

You've earned that faith and respect Freddie. Never complained about playing out of position, always an example to young fans and players alike, a true professional.

This club never fails to amaze me. Offering a player a new contract with a career threatening injury. Utter madness. At least wait till he's proved his fitness then see where his loyalties lie. We need to be concentrating on players who are fit and can play. Average player with appalling scoring record.

Most honest and hardworking player we've got, given the right role in the middle of the park he will cause havoc when he's back!

Nobbynuts are you for real!!!

One of the best players we could possibly imagine at this level and ACL injuries these days are hardly career threatening! You do make me laugh...

Well done Freddie, I like others who have watched you consistently since your arrival at the club knows how valuable you are to the squad and indeed starting 11. Hope to see you fit and playing again ASAP.

So Pompey have followed up the signing of Harrison with a £2m purchase of John Marquis from Doncaster. I was hoping that we might consider going for him as a great striker at this level and my only fear is that there will be too much pressure on Norwood to score all of the goals. Time for some of the young guns to step up this season (especially in the midfield and hit the heights of 10 plus goals).

nothing that sears doesn't deserve, he may not be the best technically but he always gives 110% for the club. i for one am excited to see what sears can do in league 1. little bit of confidence and the world is his oyster.
