Elliott Loan Move on Hold
Tuesday, 30th Jul 2019 17:04

TWTD understands striker Tom Elliott’s loan move from Millwall is on hold due to the hamstring injury he suffered earlier this month in the Lions’ pre-season friendly against Concord Rangers.

The 28-year-old's recovery from the problem, reported to be a grade one strain at the time, had been expected to be further along the line at this point, so the switch has been temporarily put on hold.

Elliott was at Portman Road yesterday to undergo a medical and complete the formalities relating to his season-long switch.

TWTD revealed that the Blues were lining up a move for Elliott on Sunday, having first tried to sign him as part of a proposed renegotiation with Millwall after Bartosz Bialkowski's initial switch broke down last month.

It's likely Town will monitor progress on his injury in the weeks to come ahead of the end of the transfer window on September 2nd.

However, the Blues continue to be linked with another striking option, Blackburn's Joe Nuttall, and may well have other alternatives that they may now look to.

According to The Sun, Town could move for 22-year-old Nuttall, who is also believed to be interesting Blackpool.

Bury-born Nuttall, who is 6ft tall, started his career with Manchester City’s youth set-up before moving on to Aberdeen, during which time he had spells on loan at Stranraer and Dumbarton.

He joined Blackburn in 2017 and has made nine starts and 28 sub appearances for Tony Mowbray’s side, scoring eight goals.

Year after year the club does the same things, despite saying things will be different. Same owner reduced budget every year. I DON'T WANT US TO SPEND MILLIONS, BUT GIVE THE MANAGER A BL**DY CHANCE.

Dolphinblue. Really?. We are linked with a player, who yes, had an injury earlier in preseason which was expected to have progressed further by now. We find out it hasn't, so we dont sign him. Please explain why you think theres anything wrong with that?

He's always had hamstring problems I believe. Once came off in first half of away game for Cambridge crying in changing rooms about his hammy. Manager said nothing wrong with it and later in week manager was proved right. His playing style means he picks up quite a few injuries also.

This is an injury sustained presumably before we started negotiations so why did we even start them! We must love signing injury prone players!!

Not sure about this one. Watched some of his highlights and he did look very good in the air with several goals scored from nice looking headers. So that was certainly a plus. But his goal scoring record didn't look great overall. If we had of got him I'd of preferred him as cover and competition for Norwood and Jackson. Jackson looks really up for it this season and I think we should start with him and Norwood and see how it goes. If we had of got Elliott and he had of been put in ahead of Jackson that would of been bad for Jackson's morale. I'm not saying Lambert would of done that. I'm just speaking hypothetically. Of course the hamstring is a slight concern but those shouldn't be a serious long-term injury although some footballers have a history of pulling hamstrings repeatedly, Bryan Robson (the ex Manchester Utd and England captain) springs to mind. Oh and Will Keane last season.

Goes without saying that strikers with good goals to games ratios often cost alot but why do we love to sign players with a proven track record of scoring goals.... a small number of goals... Elliott has Played around 300 games scored around 50 goals (7 in 57 for Millwall). You'd think we have goals from all over the pitch the way we approach our scouting.

He has been at Millwall a long time without doing much. Maybe we are his club, maybe not! Robust signings surely the order of the day.

The thing is it is on hold, so it sounds likely that he will still come, i suspect we will go for Nuttal, hopefully get him and still take this guy on loan as i should imagine at a reduced rate as part of the bart deal with a view to a perm for both players.

Whilst i agree a lot of our players have been and still are made of glass, but sometimes you get the right fit between player and club and it can all work out, i certainly would not rule this one out yet.

Itfcdinceu3. Snd nor did Daryl Murphy before his one freak goalscoring season. What Elliott would bring is a lot of what murphy did, a target to hit up front. With norwood beside him waiting for his flickons. May even notch a few too. But fans like you write off a player before even seeing him playing for us. And if after a couple of months he proves to be not good enough, we'll have Sears near to a comeback, also maybe Morris and folami. What I do know is he caused us lots of problems last season. I agree the injury is a worry but our fans amaze me. Dont think many of them know what they do want. They go on about wanting a target man in, we try to sign one and they immediately slag him off. And it's not just this player its happening with. It's seems every player we try to sign gets slated, by the same group of posters on here. Why not just wait and give them a chance before writing them off.

Surely for me if there's any doubt leave it we have enough players with injuries and will still have to pay him if injured. Where's the 3 signings lambert wanted?? We're only 3 days away from starting this should've all been done by now and people on here still think the owners doing a good job!?

Blues1. Show me a player who didn't cause us problems last season...
The supporters of the club are expecting at least 2, hopefully 3 quality signings to come in before the window shuts.
A forward who doesn't score, is currently injured and who Millwalll feel isn't upto a season fight in the bottom half of the championship.
Why o why would ITFC want this player?
If we're prepared to pay slightly more in wages, there is much better available, even at this late stage. Personally, and I think I speak for the vast majority. All signings made so far have been good.
A shame to lose the player to Plymouth who left Bury on a free.
But we need 2 or 3 players to come in. NOT just anybody for the sake of it.
They need to be upto speed, primed and ready to get stuck in from the of.
BUT this will require a little help from our owner.
