Lambert: Another Good 90 Minutes
Tuesday, 23rd Jul 2019 23:14 by Darren Campbell

Blues boss Paul Lambert felt the 1-1 draw with Vanarama National League Notts County was “another good 90 minutes” given that he fielded a young side also featuring trialists Jon Guthrie and James Wilson.

“Another goal for Kayden [Jackson], 90 minutes,” the Town manager reflected. “The team's really young, a lot of lads didn't travel, a lot of lads that were left back at the training ground, obviously injured ones there as well.

“We left some of the bench, younger kids played, so it was another good 90 minutes. It's really good for them, it will do well for their development and a couple of trialists played for us obviously as well.”

Guthrie, 26, (below, top) who was released by Walsall in the summer, started before being replaced at half-time, while Wilson, 30, who terminated his contract at Lincoln by mutual consent last month, came on at the break having also played at Colchester.

“I thought they did fine,” Lambert said. “There wasn't anything untoward with any of the two guys, I thought they done well they applied themselves really well for the team and fitted really well. So we'll have to see what happens over the next ten days or so.”

He says the interest in either of the duo is yet to progress beyond taking a look at them: “No, I wanted to watch them and see where they are. It's really difficult when you go on trial, I've done it myself, it's difficult, you've got to hope things go your way at the right time and moment, but the two guys have come in and done really well.”

Lambert, who earlier this evening was linked with a loan move for Birmingham right-back Josh Cogley, says he’s not sure whether there will be any further additions before Saturday’s final friendly at Cambridge United.

“I don't know,” he said. “They know who we want to try and get in. I guess it's over to [general manager of football operations] Lee [O’Neill] and [owner] Marcus [Evans].

Nydam may not think it was a good 90 mins. Wishing him well. We continue to struggle with injuries....

Can we count this as Lamberts first 'improved performance' of the season?

At the moment with injuries and players moving out, Ipswich will be asking for volunteers to play against Burton !!!

Think you need to give them a nudge PL as the season starts in under 2 weeks and you were supposed to have your squad sorted weeks agp. We all know the problems lie upstairs, just hope PL has not underestimated that fact.

Making the best of the situation he finds himself in, but has limited control over. That responsibility lies elsewhere, as PL says. We can only hope........
