Town Linked With Loan Move for Birmingham Full-Back
Tuesday, 23rd Jul 2019 20:03

Town are reported to be eyeing a loan move for Birmingham City right-back Josh Cogley.

Sky Sports are reporting that the Blues are lining up Cogley on loan with the Midlanders keen to send the 23-year-old out to play regular football.

Coventry-born Cogley came through the youth system at St Andrew’s and has made 11 senior starts and six sub appearances but only one brief game from the bench last season.

Right-back is an area where Town have seemed likely to make a signing this summer, loanee James Bree having departed at the end of last season along with Jordan Spence, who had played in that position during manager Paul Lambert’s first couple of months in charge.

Janoi Donacien was sent out on loan to his former club Accrington in January with Lambert viewing him more as a centre-half, although the St Lucia-born defender has played at right-back in pre-season. Josh Emmanuel is the Blues’ other current right-back option.

Good....a position we need! Hopefully better than what we have

Emmanuel was one of Rotherham's best players when they got promoted from League One. I'd much rather see him given a chance than this lad. Donacien has always looked fairly good whenever I've seen him too so I think the money could be better spent elsewhere personally.

Have to say I've never heard of him.But Lambert obviously
thinks he's an upgrade on Emmanuel and Donacien ,so he'll do for me.
Just need another striker and at least one centre half, then we'll have a
squad capable of a serious challenge.

This transfer window gets more depressing by the hour! Lambert being forced to play the Game Of Loans. As BlueBlood says above, Emmanuel was good enough to be a regular fixture in a promotion winning team last season, so why bother paying wages for another Loan Ranger when we have others here already that are most likely up to the job if given the opportunity? My only caveat to the above is that I haven't got a clue about Cogley. It's always better to reserve judgement for when you've at least seen a player actually play 2 or 3 times. But just one game from the bench last season makes him sound a rusty whereas Emmanuel was a regular. Loans are great if they add an extra dimension but this one seems to be rather weak (at least on paper). But if he does join then of course he deserves to be given a fair crack of the whip but sadly it might be at the expense of one of our own.

I am really not sure about Donacien. I have watched him in pre-season and can't play a ball forwards into midfield to save his life! Always goes long, down the channels but there is no-one chasing or running the channels so its just kicked into nowhere

@ Townie29, in the famous words of Graham Taylor "Do I not like that", the last thing we need is a hit and hope hoofmeister hoofing long and hopeful balls with all the inaccuracy of a scud missile! Hopefully he'll improve his distribution but we can't afford too many wasted balls if we want to be causing League One opposition plenty of problems.

Our defence really doesn't seem up to the job which is scary.

Just read on the forum that Nydam has sustained a very nasty looking injury (see here:
so we might be needing Cogley more than I anticipated. Injury after bl**dy injury, it's sheer madness.

I thought the club weren't going to rely on loans? Didn't PL say one top loan or at the very most two, after building a squad? This will be 50% of our business with loans.

Townie29 - you sure that wasn't Luke Chambers? Sounds like Luke Chambers? He's been aimlessly knocking it in to the channels for years.

Jas0999. So how many loans have we got then? Oh yes, 2. So exactly the amount Lambert said in the 1st place. So what ur point? And midastouch. Emmanuel wasnt at rotherham last season and they got relegated with us from championship. Yes he played well for them the year before, but was at Shrewsbury last season and couldnt get in their team. So I guess the juries still out on him.

Barry Cotter seems to have disappeared altogether. And what's happening with Dylan Crowe? And why not trust Josh Emmanuel?

surely a cb is more of a pressing concern.

Hopefully we can loan a cb from one of the Premier League teams when they settle their squads to give us some breathing space.

Cornishblu - you do realise Birmingham are a bigger team than Ipswich and have been for the last 20 years right?? We are league 1 and ive lost count the last time we were in the top division competing.

Anyways I have seen this guy play a few teams, will be more than capable of playing league 1 football, very good attacking and quick. Positoning at times could be improved but playing consistant first team football will improve this.

Cornishblu. What does it matter what club he comes from? If hes a good player then surely that's irrelevant?

In what way does this develop our youngsters? Josh had a great season in L1 last year. Just stick with him.
