Blues Offer Dozzell New Deal With Canaries Among Premier League Clubs Showing Interest
Monday, 22nd Jul 2019 16:07

TWTD understands Town are in negotiations with midfielder Andre Dozzell regarding a new contract with the 20-year-old being eyed by Premier League clubs including local rivals Norwich City.

Dozzell’s current terms are up in the summer of 2020 but with the Blues understood to have the usual additional year’s option on his deal.

Town boss Paul Lambert has been keen to tie all the club’s promising young players down to lengthy deals and it’s believed Dozzell has been offered significantly improved terms.

The England U20 international has long been linked with Premier League clubs with the Canaries, whose interest has been the subject of rumour for a number of weeks, Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace all among those currently keen.

However, it's understood the Blues have received enquiries from some of the interested parties, Norwich among them, but are yet to receive a bid.

Dozzell broke through into the Blues first team at 16, scoring on his debut just as his father Jason did at the same age, but suffered a major setback when he missed all but the opening 45 minutes of the 2017/18 campaign due to an ACL injury.

The former Copleston High School pupil returned to fitness last season but was largely on the fringes, making 11 starts and nine sub appearances, scoring his second goal for the club on the final day against Leeds.

Meanwhile, Town are one of a number of clubs claimed to be showing interest in free agent former Aston Villa and Fulham striker Ross McCormack.

According to TeamTalk, the 32-year-old is ready to rebuff the chance of a lucrative move to Asia to play in the Championship or League One.

Town, Charlton, Coventry, Wigan Athletic and Reading, as well as clubs in Scotland, are all said to be interested.

However, even if there’s any truth in the story it’s unlikely the Blues would be in a position to offer wages which would tempt the Scotland international, who came close to joining Town during Roy Keane’s time in charge, to Portman Road.

Well we all know Andre has potential and is known for a nifty pass threading defences but have to say I thought in general he was fairly disappointing last season and didn't contribute enough whilst on the pitch...I wonder how many of the Premier scouts were watching him?

If he stays here this is the season that would really make or break him whilst here...

Welcome to League One where the best players get hand picked to move to the Championship or higher!

I hope he Bull Dozzells any ideas of jumping ship to Norwich.
Not sure about McCormack, haven't kept tabs with his career in recent times. Hopefully he's got electric fencing working again!

I remember when we were in for him when Keane was here but as so often happens at Ipswich, we didn't get the deal over the line. Several years on he's not likely to be as potent but can't comment too much on it as I haven't seen Ross play in some time.

This is a strange one out of the blue.Just cannot see him going to Our neighbours. Not sure about the striker.Think we have enough here now especially when Sears is hopefully fit.Feel we need a CB as a priority though.

I saw McCormack play for Motherwell on his 'comeback'. He was subbed off at half time as was an embarrassment. A long way from what he was before. Put on a lot of weight and lost the touch. He didn't do anything at Motherwell. I think he's finished as a footballer now

Oh dear Judge, Dozzel. The harsh reality of league 3 is this what you realy wished for?.

@ shropshiretractor that's a worry. Hope we dodge a bullet if he's that far gone. We've been on the wrong side of far too many 30+ signings who have seen far better days. Not very many work out as well as Mogga!

I don't expect him to stay with us much longer, unless we get back-to-back promotions, however, I don't think he'd be stupid enough to join Norwich! He'd destroy not only his, but his father's legacy. Not to mention the fact he is an Ipswich boy.

As much potential Dozzell has got really needs to show it as yes a bad injury but there are other youngster who could well overtake him

And what is it with China! They'd prob offer Giles Coke half a million to play out there! They don't seem very fussy on who they sign up for mega money over there. Some of the old mercenaries like Carbone and Ravanelli might be tempted to give it another shot over in the Red Dragon!

Reliably informed the deal with Norwich is more or less done and this is a reaction to that.

Said this in January and I'll say it again now. No one (let alone a Premier League team) is paying serious money for Dozzell on the basis of 963 (largely indifferent) minutes in the Championship. He'll be staying here until he's stood out in a substantial number of actual first team matches.

Before I get dammed to eternal Hell.
Yes, I am aware that Andre recovered from an horrendous injury, but really can't see a premier league club wanting to sign a player who struggled to get in to the worst team in the championship last season.

Not going to happen.

Genuine question:
Would you rather have Dozzell for one more season or would you prefer Judge?

I'd go with Judge.

Complexly deflated by all of this talk of Dozzell and Judge leaving. If you don't want to play for this club then f*** off! Sick of players not being committed to this club. Bet we get peanuts for them too. Judge shouldn't leave for anything less than 1 million and Dozzell shouldn't be sold for anything less than 8 million. Crazy prices but that's today's market.

I would not be fussed if Dozzell left. Not the same player he was before that awful injury and chances are he may never be the same.

£10m and he is theres!

As for Judge, personally not bothered if he stays or goes. Didn't really set the world alight last season did he! £2m will do nicely if QPR are serious!
