Midfielder Emyr Huws says he feels really good having returned to first team action during pre-season after his lengthy lay-off with a knee injury.

The 25-year-old suffered the injury at Middlesbrough in December 2017 and underwent surgery. The Wales international was close to coming back a couple of times last season, playing for the U23s and was on one occasion on the bench for the first team, but each time hit a setback.

However, he has trained throughout the opening weeks of pre-season and played a half against Paderborn last week and yesterday’s opening 45-minute game against Fortuna Düsseldorf at the Interwetten Cup.

“I feel really good. I’ve worked hard and I’m chuffed that it’s paying off,” he told iFollow Ipswich.

“At the moment I feel I’m only going to get stronger and stronger and I’m looking forward to the season now and playing my part for the team.

“I have learnt so much from what has happened in the past. It’s been hard for my career but from what I have been through, I’m feeling better mentally and physically.

“A lot of things have come together and I’m just delighted to be back out there on the pitch again and with an Ipswich shirt on. I’ve missed it and now it’s about showing what I can do.”

One of the leading high street bookies has us as 2nd favourites behind Sunderland for the title and I fear we are way off that standard. I really hope I'm wrong.

Linkboy13 added 20:08 - Jul 15 Probably the classiest player in the squad when fit which is far too lightweight and got out muscled far too many times last season teams in div 1 will see us as a big scalp so it won't get any easier this season so we need to adapt a more physical approach in my opinion we need 3 signings down the middle of the pitch centre half (experienced) midfielder ball winner and big target man.

Overall it does not look too bad.

Fat_Boy_Tim added 07:05 - Jul 16 I suspect kiwi, if we are talking 'all fit' first 11, PL will go with a 4-5-1 again with one or two holding in midfield. if Bart is staying my guess would be 4-5-1 / 4-2-3-1 / 4-1-4-1 depending on how you look at it and what phase of play we are in. Bart Emmanuel -- Chambers -- Nsiala -- Garbutt/Kenlock Skuse -- Huws Edwards -- Judge -- Sears/Roberts/Lankester/Dozzell/Jackson etc... Norwood Not much in the way of left wingers, despite all those names, but a lot of potential 'inside forwards' who can cut in a get some goals. We don't seem to have much competition at right back unless Chambers moves over and then we have almost no competition at center half. Those seem to be our weak points as many have pointed out. Loads of competition for the 3 spots in midfield and I suspect we'll have to loan out a few.

TBT added 22:58 - Jul 16 Met Emyr on the train to London recently, top man with plenty of time to chat to a fan. Intelligent and realistic about our predicament in League 1. He was grateful that he had a long term contract and is hoping to have a long and successful run in the team.
