Garbutt Looking for a Club That Feels Like Home
Friday, 12th Jul 2019 17:20

New loan signing Luke Garbutt says he’s looking to put down roots at a club having been on plenty of loan spells in recent seasons and with his time at Everton appearing likely to come to an end next summer.

Garbutt, 26, has been at Goodison Park for a decade since joining them from the youth set-up at Leeds but has made only only eight starts - three in the Premier League - and four sub appearances - two in the top flight - for the Toffeemen.

The former England U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 international has spent loan spells at Cheltenham, Colchester, Fulham, Wigan and Oxford United and is now looking for somewhere to settle longer term with his Everton contract up next summer.

Garbutt, who is with Town for the season, says he spoke to ex-Blues loanees Matthew Pennington and Callum Connolly before signing on the dotted line at Portman Road.

“I spoke to Matty and Callum and they had nothing but good things to say about the club,” he told iFollow Ipswich.

“They said it was a really welcoming club, a welcoming set of lads and a good place to be at. I’m raring to go now and I’m excited to see what the season holds.

“I’ve had a few loans spells now and I am hoping to find a club that feels like home, where I feel settled and where I’m playing well.

“I want to be where I’m used to the set-up, the fans, the lads in the dressing room. That’s what I’m striving for really. I want to give my all for the shirt and hopefully find a base and a home.”

Garbutt is already out in Germany with his new team-mates and trained with the squad this afternoon. It’s likely the left-back or left midfielder will make his first appearance in a Town shirt at the Interwetten Cup in Meppen on Sunday.

Didn't realise he was 26. No excuses at that age, so let's hope for all concerned the lad can deliver as we certainly need more from the left and make it a season to remember for all....and make Town home !

Opportunity for Garbutt to restart his career and win a contract. Quite obviously not going to make it at Everton.

Could be good for club and player. If he pulls his finger out and gets fans on side he'll be made to feel very much at home!

Agreed Mr Town and the whole of Suffolk too!
I like the sound of this chaps comments. Hopefully a very good signing. He had a very good season for Oxford and hopefully will do the same for us. Then build the home and future with us.
Great that previous loan players speak well if us too.

If playing regularly and enjoying your football is what motivates you then welcome, you're at the right club. If money motivates you then you're at the wrong club.

Would we hAve to pay a fee for him at the end of this season if we wanted to keep him ?

ArnieM, don't think so as he would be out of contract.

If he has a storming season, which we all hope he has. He will then go to whoever offers the best contract. And going by his age the most important of his career.

According to vital football Everton, this guy is on 28k week! I dont think he'll be staying at Ipswich after his loan! If true, what a life! 26 and paid 1.5m for playing for Oxford!

Good signing, if he does well and helps us get promoted then we could be in a position to sign him permanently. Good deal all round. Direct replacement for Knudsen and competition for Myles.
