Norwood: Special Things Can Happen When You’re Together
Thursday, 11th Jul 2019 09:23

New striker James Norwood believes there's a togetherness in the Town squad that can lead to special things happening.

Norwood joined the Blues on a free transfer from Tranmere earlier in the summer and is likely to make his first appearance in a Town shirt at the Interwetten Cup in Meppen on Sunday having returned to pre-season late following his League Two play-off involvement with his previous club.

The 28-year-old says he has enjoyed the club’s pre-season training camp in Germany, which runs until Monday when they fly back to the UK.

“It’s been good, we’re in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do so the all lads are together,” the striker told iFollow Ipswich.

“It’s brilliant, it’s bonding, it’s just training and working hard and that’s what we need to do.

“The club’s obviously gone down a league and we’re going to have to work hard to get up, we’re going to have to outwork people.”

Norwood says he has settled into the squad quickly and believes there’s a strong bond between the players.

“I love them!” he said. “Big Tommy the goalkeeper [Tomas Holy], I keep telling him to stop standing next to me at dinner because he’s about 6ft 9.

“I get on really well with the older lads and even the younger lads have got something about them. There’s a togetherness in the squad and special things can happen when you’re together.”

Regarding his own fitness following his extended break, Norwood says he has made good progress and has now stepped up and is working alongside the rest of the squad.

“Brilliant, I joined in today, did a double session for the first time,” he added. “Me and Judgey [who was also given additional time off] have been running by ourselves but obviously the coaches thought I was fit enough to join in today.”

Some fans should take a note off his hymn sheet - early days but this guy looks like a great fit for us, really positive and has some character about him. Remains to be seen if he can step it up to this level but got a good feeling about him going forward 💪🏻 COYB

Have to say I agree with the first comment, seems a positive and determined character, and importantly also sounds like he fits in socially.

There can't be too much difference between league one and two so he should score goals.......with Lamberts way of playing and the Bishops Doxzells and Judgey he should get the service he needs to do that.

In any walk of life it's just as important to have the right attitude and belief as it is to have the skill. You can probably go further with attitude than skill. If you have both your on a winner and Norwood seems to have both. I'd still like to see at least two more signings as we are a bit lightweight in defence and don't have a decent winger. Remember when we had Bent and Shefki we scored loads of goals, but let loads in. We need a tight defence and a goalscoring midfield and forward line.

A 'proper' striker at the Club. What is not to like. The one thing I took from his performances last season is the demands he put on the players around him. We had better put some balls through to the guy, as am sure he has no intention of sticking around and scoring 10-15 goals in a season. He wants it, PL's job is to find the team to match Norwood's passion for success. COYB !

I am really starting to look forward to the start of the season, if we can win the first two games then the positivity will be through the roof.
Mind you I felt the same at the start of last season, the difference this time is we have not lost key players, and with Judge and Norwood we have something to build from.

Where are the 'Evans Out' miseries today, I almost left this site last week they hacked me off so much, I'm sure there a lot more positive people like me who support the team. We are where we are, and the finances are what they are, I believe in this team and our young players and am really looking forward to seeing Norwood leading the line.
COYB!!!!

It appears he has got taller over the summer.

He's started to grow through his hair.

I love this guy's attitude and work ethic. Finally, we have someone in the squad with a real positive attitude!
As much as I hated us going down, I really think we needed it to rebuild and I am really looking forward to this campaign.
Now....How about free transfer Daryl Murphy for one last time!

Algarve I share your pain, but in it's own way, quite amusing watching these people squirm when they are unable to respond when faced with logic.
Also it would be awful to let the bigotry of them spoil what is by and large a very good forum, so keep posting, always interesting.
