Striker Freddie Sears says he’s targeting November for a return to action with his recovery and rehabilitation from the ACL injury he suffered at Norwich in February progressing well.

The 29-year-old is at this week’s German training camp but working with the physios and conditioning coaches rather than joining in with the rest of the squad.

“I’m four and a bit months in, I’m feeling stronger every day and looking to step up now,” the former West Ham and Colchester man told iFollow Ipswich.

“I’ve just started the AlterG, which is the anti-gravity treadmill, and hopefully will be back on the grass within four to six weeks. So, I’m feeling good, feeling positive and hopefully it's not too much longer now.

“It’s all been good, no setbacks yet, which is a positive. Hopefully I’ll come through this next four to six weeks and then can really start stepping it up.”

He says he has a schedule for his return in mind: “I’ve got a time in my head, I’m looking at November for me personally, but obviously there could be setbacks, there could be knocks. I’m taking it day by day at the minute.

“It’s a long process, it’s been four months now and it hasn’t felt too bad, to be honest, but I’m sure once August starts it’ll start kicking in, the season will be going and I’ll be raring to get back.

He is one quick player, remember one of his early goals for us (against Birmingham I think) and he just ran away from the opposition. He looked a Premier League-player. Maybe he hasn´t developed quite the player I thought he would, but on the other hand playing for Town these last few seasons have been quite difficult. Still only 29 and should have a few good years in him yet.

The lad WILL score goals if played up front, has done that whenever given the chance in Champ, and killed it when last in League 1. Could make the difference and take some pressure off Norwood. More concerned about Gwion and Nolan. Expected them to be among first names on teamsheet, and to be getting 7/8 out of 10 from each every week. Desperately need them fit for season start and hopefully for our injury curse to end now that the ghost of Mick McCarthy, and his training methods, should be behind us.

Northstandveteran added 12:39 - Jul 10 Always rated him Gcon. Unfortunately for him, he was ignored or often played out of position my Mick. Often stuck out wide somewhere by recent managers to. Had he been fit and raring to go, he and Norwood would have made a great pairing.

shouldistayorcounago added 12:53 - Jul 10 Love to see Freddie back and hopefully being played in position again, he was an absolute weapon when we played him down the middle but with such a small squad his workrate seems to dictate we always use him as a wideman. Really hoping he can come back and play a vital part for us as he's a great player at Championship level and definitely think he could make the difference at this level.
