Town boss Paul Lambert says he knows nothing about QPR’s reported interest in midfielder Alan Judge and insists he wasn’t disappointed that winger Danny Mayor opted to join his former Bury boss Ryan Lowe at Plymouth rather than signing for the Blues.

“I don’t know anything about it,” Lambert said when asked about reports that QPR are eyeing Judge as a potential replacement for Luke Freeman, who joined Sheffield United for a fee of £4.9 million.

“I don’t listen to anything and don’t read anything so I don’t know anything about it.

“I don’t get involved in it unless someone phones us and gets in touch. There’s been nothing.”

Lambert says Judge, who signed a new two-year deal with the Blues in April, is a player he doesn’t want to lose: “Not at all, we’re trying to build something here and build a good team and we have some fabulous footballers in the team, that’s for sure. Alan Judge is one of them.”

Asked whether there had been any developments regarding Bartosz Bialkowski with a move to Millwall having broken down last month, he added: “No, as I’ve said before I don’t get too involved in things that don’t affect me. I just do the job as best I can.

“Ipswich Town is the main thing and the supporters who come and watch us. I don’t get caught up in the whole craziness of the transfer talk.”

Quizzed on free agent Mayor’s decision to join the League Two Pilgrims having been at Portman Road for a look around a fortnight ago, Lambert says he wasn’t disappointed by the winger’s decision.

“Not at all. People can go where they want,” he continued. “If they don’t want to be here then no problem and I won’t lose sleep over it. If you don’t want to be here, don’t come.”

Regarding further additions to his squad, Lambert reiterated that all signings will be free transfers: “We can’t buy anybody, that’s the fact of it, but that’s no problem because we have some really good young players here.

“They may need a little bit of help but we can’t go and buy anybody, regardless of what anyone thinks about deals done before my time and the knock-on of money coming in.

“It doesn’t work like that and that’s the reality of it but that’s no problem. We’ve got a good side."

That lack of cash would appear to rule out fans’ favourite Daryl Murphy making a return to Portman Road, having been made available by Nottingham Forest where he's likely to be on a signficant wage, however, the Blues boss didn’t entirely rule out a fifth spell for the Republic of Ireland international.

“The lad was a good player but I don’t know because he’s older now,” he said.

“Money-wise, you never know until wages get put on the table but people need to get their heads round that we won’t be getting masses.

“That’s not a problem. The club has spent a hell of a lot of money over the years but we’ve got the young guys coming through the academy.

“We’re a good side, even though they’re young. I’m really happy with the guys and the way they’ve performed but if we can try and get one or two in to give them a boost then we will try.”

Oldozblue added 11:31 - Jul 7 The most disturbing thing PL said was that we cannot pay for anyone. How many clubs have been promoted solely on existing squads plus free transfers? I am not certain but I think Norwich paid for players under PL to get them back into the championship. Our rivals like Peterborough and Rotherham are buying. Lets hope our existing squad plus frees like Holy and Norwood are good enough. Strikes me if PL had been a bit more successful with the clubs he had managed before coming to ITFC he would not have stayed with these circumstances. Fingers crossed that this will work!

ITFCsince73 added 12:31 - Jul 7 Oldoz. Norwich had premier league parachute payments in L1, which was a huge advantage over anyone else. Sunderland are in the same position. The bookmakers have them as favourites because of this. Then you have a host of clubs where the owners are providing funds to improve the playing staff quality. Pompey, Posh, Rotherham, Coventry and others. We won't be investing in the squad even if we sold 2 players for £5m. This amongst other things will mean over the course of the season we won't be in the position to compete.

mathiemagic added 13:22 - Jul 7 I for one am quite glad we are not just signing players for the sake of it and for that instant jump back to the Championship. A couple of seasons to bed in the youngsters and we may well be a force to be recon with when we get back to the Championship. A team full of loanees and instant promotion will not stand us in good stead for the future.

sixtyblue added 15:47 - Jul 7 If Paul does not know what's going on in the club what is he doing here?A manager needs to know what's going on and to be involved with what's going on inside and outside of the club.Four weeks to kick off and the club still looks in complete disarray.Training in Germany will not make any better a player than being in Ipswich.

The strategy of blooding youngsters is no more than a smokescreen for use what you've got. Lambert is still peddling this little bit of help nonsense and distancing himself from knowledge of transfers... which can only mean one thing. He doesn't want the blame for any departures or lack of recruitment. It's the lies and the BS I hate.

I respect your opinion, and you keep writing what ever you feel. But that all sounds like madness to me, but at the same time, I think that's what will happen anyway. Certainly not something to have in the planning. Although knowing the club anything's possible.

It's not the managers fault the clubs in disarray it's the owner! The owner doesn't seem to bu@@er up his other businesses like this just ours! I've been a manager in a job and literally had the powers that be come and close the place with no notice so NO managers aren't always notified but have to go with the flow or you leave 🤷‍♂️

This guy is one of the reason we saw optimism in the new season he can literally be the difference in league one next year between mid table and play offs. If he goes and with no money to replace unfortunately I think we'll struggle
