Mayor Joins Plymouth
Monday, 1st Jul 2019 15:25

Town target Danny Mayor has joined League Two Plymouth Argyle, the Pilgrims have confirmed.

Mayor, who officially became a free agent today with his Bury contract up at the end of June, is reunited with his former Shakers boss Ryan Lowe at Home Park.

The 28-year-old left winger spent time looking around Plymouth last Wednesday where he was offered terms, before taking a trip to Suffolk on Thursday as he continued talks with Town, while other clubs, including his former loan side Tranmere, were also believed to be keen. It’s unclear whether the Blues went as far as offering a contract.

Mayor says it was the chance to work with Lowe once again which persuaded him to move to the South-West.

“Everyone knows my relationship with the gaffer at Bury. There’s no doubt that he got the best out of me last season," he said.

“You just have to look at the stadium, the surroundings; it’s a wonderful set-up. That really sold it to me.”

Mayor’s decision to join Argyle means manager Paul Lambert will have to look elsewhere for a left-wised addition to his squad.

Well that was quick something made his mind up very abruptly...not really bothered but we do need a few more faces and a new central defender is a given.

Not overly concerned. The chance to work with people he's familiar with and at a level that he knows he's good enough to play probably made it an easy decision.

If we'd wanted him badly enough I think we would've signed him.

He's got no ambition so no problem

If Lambert really wanted him then we'd have got him ahead of a L2 side

Maybe we offered him a back up role

He couldn't have been over impressed with the deal offered by us.

Dont know enough about this guy to decide if we have missed out or not but.....

It is beginning to concern me that once again we look as if we will not have our transfer business sorted before pre-season matches start. Certainly Lambert was looking to go into pre-season with the majority of any new players already in, from his comments at the end of last season at least.

Clearly not ambitious then

Good to know we're alive to useful options & we shouldn't expect any to materialise just because they pay us a visit !
I remain confident in PL & Co to put together a good squad and recruit sensibly ; long time to go yet so let's not burn any boats in judging too early ,or condemning too soon !

Happy to get a guaranteed slot at a lower level in a crappy place!
Nowt lost there.

No great loss. Lets move on and hope PL has some good additions in the pipeline. COYB.

Outcome I suspect most of us anticipated. Don't know how strong PL's interest was; but nothing to be gained from given it too much further thought. Move on. Probably higher priorities to be met, both in defence and attack. Slight concern is whilst PL will be keen to get business done as quickly as possible, reality is that - with us! - things invariably drag on.

Player reluctant to step out his confort zone. Football is a short career and he may live to regret his decision, time will tell. If we're looking to strengthen the left hand side we could do worse than Ben Pringle who was released in the summer.

This is fine by me. We still have Danny ROWE who played for Lincoln last season against a lot of the teams we will face this year. His extra experience will be vital in the first team, this season. I do agree we still need new recruits but they have to be the right ones!

There is no way Danny Mayor was top of our list of transfer targets, you can see why he went there & he's even said that he & Ryan Lowe are good friends. Not sure if he would of bought anything to the side but I'm sure PL will have players lined up. Hopefully Danny Rowe might perform in pre season to be in with a shout this season & Edwards might re-discover his mojo, here's hoping! COYB

Guessing we didn't offer great terms, probably relative to the risk of whether he'd step up to lge1. Not bothered......next please!

Probably would have been a "nice to have" but has chosen to follow his manager. Good luck to him, and we move on.

No one on here knows what the situation really was, so it pointless speculating. Sounds like a very good signing for Argyle though. Fair enough, move on.

He probably knows League 2 is his limit.

Was on the cards as he seemed to only have a whistle stop rather than the grand tour with us.

Can't see the Plymouth fascilities having a bigger wow factor than ours.

Probably realised with the likes of a fit Freddie on the scene his game time would be limited.

A bit short sighted moving to Plymouth because he was familiar with the Manager as what happens if the guy gets the sack?

Long term surely his prospects would be better with us and a bigger salary?

Maybe we were also just going through the motions on this one?
