Target Mayor at Portman Road
Thursday, 27th Jun 2019 16:23

TWTD understands Bury winger Danny Mayor was at Portman Road earlier this afternoon with the Blues as the 28-year-old free agent weighs up the various clubs interested in signing him this summer.

Mayor, whose Bury contract is up at the weekend, is understood to be checking out his various options having travelled to Plymouth yesterday to look around the League Two club, who are managed by his former Shakers boss Ryan Lowe.

As TWTD revealed this morning, Mayor is interesting Town with talks about about a move to Portman Road having taken place and he paid the club a visit this afternoon, although the wideman has now left and appears to be continuing to assess his alternatives with a deal not believed to be close to being done at this stage.

Argyle boss Lowe has confirmed his club has offered terms to Mayor and that he was at Home Park yesterday.

Lowe says he’s aware the Pilgrims are one of several interested parties and expects Mayor to make a decision on his future soon. Mayor’s former loan side Tranmere are believed to be among the other interested parties.

Lowe told Plymouth Live: “We have tabled an offer, he knows what it looks like. He has been very open and transparent with us, because he can and he always is.

“He’s obviously speaking to other clubs, which again is fine. We will respect whatever decision Dan makes.

“For us, he’s someone that has been on our radar since the minute I got the job, so we will just have to see how that pans out.”

Meanwhile, Millwall have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Frank Fielding from Bristol City.

However, that may not necessarily mark an end to the Lions’ interest in Town’s Bartosz Bialkowski with manager Neil Harris understood to be after two keepers this summer having lost three at the end of last season.

Earlier in the week, Town pulled out of Bialkowski’s £1 million switch to Millwall after the South Londoners sought to renegotiate the deal due to concerns regarding his knee which emerged during his medical.

Sounds to me like Cash over club, it's his final big signing which club has best chance of championship football and wages over his possible 3yr deal.

Plymouth, Tranmere or us. Well, Norwood picked us so let's hope we get the same result here.

Could be a quick visit as he's made his decision or alternatively wasn't interested, impossible to tell anything by a quick visit.

Dont know anything about him other than the 25 sec highlight video, is that it? highlight vids can be very misleading, Jet had a great one if i remember correctly, he looked a world beater! I know one thing, fill your team with league one players and you get a league one team! worked perfectly last season! I really hope the plan is not to fill our team with league 2 players! There are good players around who are free/Bosmans, our scouting team needs to find them!

Its not what you spend, its about the recruitment! every time.

"We've got to be a more impressive club who'll offer better wages and have more ambition than Plymouth and Tranmere".

ITFC have just been relegated and Tranmere have just had two back-to-back Promotions.
Tranmere can command a crowd of 15k+ for big games so not too far behind.ITFC isn't as attractive as it used to be.

While I know nothing about Mayor, a winger who will be 29 shortly doesn't exactly set the pulse racing. Who's to say that he's any better than Danny Rowe, who has scored far more goals in his career?

I think we've got to face the facts we are Div 1 club now these are the sort of players we will be linked with he was outstanding for Bury last year and was selected for the league team of the season which is good enough for me most of our young players are still players of potential and we can't gamble on them not sure about the likes of Rowe seems to been around for ages got ability but doesn't look interested when brought on needs to up his work rate Which Lambert mentioned last season before going on loan .

We're building a squad capable of going 60+ games, including pre-season, but I can see us being overloaded in some areas, light in others if we spend wages in the wrong areas. I'd really rather see us getting a big centre half or fullback. There are some cloggers in this league, and we need to protect ourselves from aerial bombardment.

What we must not forget is his agent who I am sure will get his player into a club that will pay the most to get his cut out of the deal.

Just taken a look at this guys highlights, yes they can be deceptive, but it looks like he has quick feet, pace, not easy to knock off the ball and a shot on him.
Have we really got anyone like that?
I only hope we have made him a decent offer, a player of that character could make an instant impact at this club.
I've been secretly hoping that Lambert could unearth another “Grant Holt” type player, I think that this could be him and I think this Danny Mayor could be even better than the aforementioned.

He can't just say ok club looks nice, ok IL sign,I agree with Sweden steve, he has to go home and talk to his family who he may have to move down here if he were to sign, so it's not as simple as IL sign

Would love to see this but am getting anxious about it not going through. Think I only know the guy from Football Manager... but I do trust Lambo's judgement. As others have said, family and private life is a big factor and although we are a bigger club, we might not be as competitive financially as a lot of us would like. Fingers crossed its announced soon. COYB

If we can't sign players like him now, what change have we got of signing anybody really , gonna be a long hard season, I think we will struggle to get in the playoffs this season ,

GSH71, I agree ,i think its going to be a tough season, those that said we will rip up Lge 1 are going to be brought down to Earth , and i dont think M E has the desire do anything about it, he has failed and knows it will cost him more than he is willing to invest,Lge 1 is more his level, worryingly that may still be beyond him .
