Target Mayor at Portman Road
Thursday, 27th Jun 2019 16:23

TWTD understands Bury winger Danny Mayor was at Portman Road earlier this afternoon with the Blues as the 28-year-old free agent weighs up the various clubs interested in signing him this summer.

Mayor, whose Bury contract is up at the weekend, is understood to be checking out his various options having travelled to Plymouth yesterday to look around the League Two club, who are managed by his former Shakers boss Ryan Lowe.

As TWTD revealed this morning, Mayor is interesting Town with talks about about a move to Portman Road having taken place and he paid the club a visit this afternoon, although the wideman has now left and appears to be continuing to assess his alternatives with a deal not believed to be close to being done at this stage.

Argyle boss Lowe has confirmed his club has offered terms to Mayor and that he was at Home Park yesterday.

Lowe says he’s aware the Pilgrims are one of several interested parties and expects Mayor to make a decision on his future soon. Mayor’s former loan side Tranmere are believed to be among the other interested parties.

Lowe told Plymouth Live: “We have tabled an offer, he knows what it looks like. He has been very open and transparent with us, because he can and he always is.

“He’s obviously speaking to other clubs, which again is fine. We will respect whatever decision Dan makes.

“For us, he’s someone that has been on our radar since the minute I got the job, so we will just have to see how that pans out.”

Meanwhile, Millwall have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Frank Fielding from Bristol City.

However, that may not necessarily mark an end to the Lions’ interest in Town’s Bartosz Bialkowski with manager Neil Harris understood to be after two keepers this summer having lost three at the end of last season.

Earlier in the week, Town pulled out of Bialkowski’s £1 million switch to Millwall after the South Londoners sought to renegotiate the deal due to concerns regarding his knee which emerged during his medical.

Know nothing about the lad, but I trust Lamberts judgement. Low risk on a free too. Lets see how this turns out then

We've got to be a more impressive club who'll offer better wages and have more ambition than Plymouth and Tranmere, just hope it's enough to convince him not to play for his old manager or a club close to home.

At 28 this will be his "payday" contract and the length of the contract as well as the money will be important to him with a young family. Plymouth with his previous manager have tabled an offer so the ball is in our court, hopefully Lambert will have impressed him. Fingers crossed!

You'd like to think we could beat the likes of Plymouth and Tranmere but we have been known to let players slip through our fingers to join smaller teams. Here's one that I can think of, not that he ever did much for Yeovil as far as I'm aware!

Tough one because he has a choice of Plymouth where he works with a manager he knows but has drop back to L2, Tranmere a club he knows close to home or us where he will get the most money.

Tranmere probably offers the best balance for wage and home life

If he arrived this afternoon and has gone already me thinks it didn't go to well , hope I'm totally wrong as he is just the sort of player we need

If we are relying on Southend to give a positive view of the area we stand no chance. It's like a war zone there.

We don't stand anymore of a chance of signings than all league 1 teams. Some of you need to wake up

He's 28. Never played for a big club. This is surely his last chance. It's a no brainer if you ask me. Join Ipswich.

That depends if he looks at the history

It was only two years ago players where boed before they'd even kicked a ball

Be careful what you wish for numbskulls

Reading some comments from Bury fans on twitter stating that he suffers with home sickness. If so ,Tranmere may be favourites .
Looks half decent so hopefully not.

I think he'll sign for Tranmere tbh . It's on his home patch and he doesn't sound like he wants to uproot his family. I'll be surprised if he signs for us.

Will he be any better than we've got? There's Edwards, Lankester, Rowe & Sears when he's back from injury for wide players.
Would like to see Rowe get given more of a chance. Never heard of Mayor but Lambert sees something good in him so time for me to be quiet & see if we sign him & he works wonders for the club.
Take it lambert is serous about using Roberts as a striker!! He's also another alternative winger.
