Lambert: Time in Germany Will Be Huge for Us
Thursday, 27th Jun 2019 13:05

Manager Paul Lambert has stressed the importance of the pre-season training camp in Germany.

The squad travel for the camp next Thursday with the first friendly against Bundesliga new boys Paderborn on the Saturday at the Stadion Laumeskamp in Delbrück.

The players will then train at their base throughout the following week before taking part in the Interwetten Cup on the Sunday where they will face sister club Fortuna Düsseldorf and either hosts SV Meppen or Dutch side FC Utrecht in games lasting 45 minutes. They return to the UK the following day.

“It will be next week when we go to Germany that pre-season will really kick in I think,” Lambert told the club site.

“The time out there will be huge for us. The players will be living in each other’s pockets. You have to respect each other.

“They will be working hard and they have to try and do everything we ask of them to prepare for that first game in August.

“We are facing some good teams out in Germany. That helps with the preparation but it’s about the whole trip and working together out there.”

Let's hope 99% of the squad that goes to Germany is the squad that's kicks of L1.
PL made it part of his plan some months back, and rightly so.
The trip only worthwhile if all buisness done.

Could we have a little less hyperbole please, PR Paul? I don't really think it's going to be 'huge', it's important and maybe even significant but 'huge'. Come on. And where's the big announcement you promised us toward the end of the season....still waiting.

I agree that not huge but important to sort out men from the boys. Not quite understanding why its taken so long to recruit as current squad has too many holes ie
no left sided CB, at least one CF, a LB, and LW (maybe Major!)
PL knows its a long season and with success comes lots of fixtures so I recon we're at least 6 light.Youth will only fill gaps if they're ready.

This might not be popular with some but I think Paul Lambert has just about got the squad he wants already.
Unless Bart moves on I cannot see a keeper coming in and he may stick with the defenders he has and utilising the youngsters too.
Midfield we are more than covered. Up front we have James Norwood and Kaiden Jackson. He may want to add one more striker but that's about it I believe.

Hope your very wrong Cakeman.
Although its early in the window, it appears that many more clubs than would be normal are going to go all out for promotion from L1 this season. Forget the big 2, it's the likes of Rotherham, Posh and Lincoln amongst others that go into the season expecting promotion.
Sunderland and Pompey want top 2 no less.

I feel we need 5 or 6 further signings [ FB , CB , LW & Striker ] to mount a serious challenge but whether we get them all - I doubt it !!

I'm in agreement with Cakeman I don't think there is much wrong with the playing staff we already have. I would like to see another striker, so would have kept Harrison until that happened, I think any more additions will come late in the window as we are mostly looking at out of contract or released players, it is what it is. Our strength will come I think from our young players if Lambert is bold enough to play them. I'm looking forward to a new challenge for the team, I think we will do OK this season, I have no evidence for that comment but believe the players will have learnt a lot from last season and be better players for it.

Starting 11 as of now

Bart

Emanuelle Wolfie Nisala Kenlock

Edwards Skuse Bishop Rowe

Judge

Norwood

Bench. Holy, Chambo, Donaciean, Huws, Dozzel, Jackson, Downes, Nolan... one of those to miss out

Would like competitions at L and R back and to see a winger win for Rowe, although I still think he could be a real asset if developed and we need width.

Also 1x striker and Jackson moved on but don't think the club can stomach the hit we'd take to move him on. Might move on loan if we get one in.

Happy to see Huws or Dozzell in for Bish and Downes for Skuse but think we need his experience.

Sears would be ahead of Jackson for me and think if we had fit Sears, Lankester, Morris we'd be set but they may not ve fit until Nov so one in, even on loan.

Still have Nydam, Ndaba, Folami, Roberts and El Mizoni.... so 4 in total. Expect at least 2 loans.

Our midfield has been left wanting for quite a few years. Hope they do the business. I'm looking for a playmaker or two as ours have fell short

Your probably right Cakeman. We are in dire need of a new centre back but its highly unlikely there will be any funds for transfer fees. So we are stuck with what weve got, hence retaining Calamity.

Far too many people are underestimating Div 1 probably the same people who thought we would get promoted last year and bearing in mind are record against lower league teams which is appalling this squad in my opinion has a weak under belly and needs a bigger physical presence to get out of this league.
