Town Confirm Przybek Signing
Wednesday, 5th Jun 2019 11:34

Town have confirmed the signing of former West Brom keeper Adam Przybek on a two-year deal with an option for a further season. TWTD revealed yesterday that the 19-year-old, who spent time on trial at Portman Road earlier this year, was at the club to undergo a medical and complete the formalities relating his move.

"I'm delighted and I can't wait to get going," Przybek told iFollow Ipswich. "This a new challenge for me having been at West Brom since I was seven, but one I'm very much looking forward to."

Przybek came through the academy ranks at the Hawthorns before being released this summer without having broken into their first-team squad. Last season he made 22 appearances for the Baggies’ U18s without featuring for their U23s.

He also spent time on loan with Gloucester City and Rushall Olympic prior to three weeks on trial with the Blues in January and February in which he featured in the 4-3 U23s defeat at Crystal Palace when he evidently caught the eye of manager Paul Lambert and goalkeeper-coach Jimmy Walker.

English-born Przybek has won U16s caps with England and has played at U17 and U19 levels with Wales and was recently on standby for their U21s squad. He also qualifies to play international football for Poland via his grandparents.

Przybek, who was on loan at Worcester City in 2017/18, will be viewed as an U23s keeper next season and his addition may allow the Blues to send Harry Wright, 20, out on loan to gain first-team experience elsewhere during 2019/20.

Town have now made two signings this summer, Przybek and fellow keeper Tomas Holy, with striker James Norwood set to become the third when, as previously reported, his long all-but-done free move from Tranmere is finally confirmed next week.

The 28-year-old, who is currently away on a family holiday, is set to sign a three-year deal with an option for a further season.

Welcome Adam. Hope you have a long and successful career with us.

Regarding Norwood, I've always been nervous of an agreement falling through since Hassan Kachloul 2001. Remember him?

Been rather a lot of those. Remember Sammy Ameobi, failed his medical I think. Think they said at the time he had a dodgy knee or knees. Didn't stop him scoring plenty of goals thereafter for Newcastle. Never really saw him as a Premier League player but I think he would of been really useful in Championship. Obviously the medicals are a lot harder to pass in the modern game, long gone are the days of having to touch your toes (John Wark's medical at Liverpool) and then signing on the dotted line! Shame we didn't have the same stringent medicals when we signed the likes of Adeyemi compared to when we were on the verge of signing Ameobi under Magilton.

Another one that got away at the last minute, Kevin Phillips. I could go on but you get the idea. If we did get Norwood and he turned out even half as good as Phillips we'd be in for an absolute treat!

Maybe if we miss out on Norwood we might find Peter Odemwingie loitering with intent in the club car park at 2 minutes before midnight! He's so keen he'll even pay for his own petrol!

Stop panicking about Norwood! He'll be in a town shirt long before pre season kicks off. The guy will be having a break, their season went on a bit longer than ours!

Warm welcome and best wishes for a long and successful period at this great club; a tad down on it's luck at the moment. But hopefully you can be part of our journey on the road back to regaining C'ship status.

Personally believe Bart's departure is inevitable. In truth, given our current situation, the best outcome for all parties. But he's given us outstanding service, and I personally wish him well.

Talking of players that got away,I remember the great Pat Jennings
was on his way here, but typical Ipswich wouldn't pay the extra £100,000,
(nothing changes) to sign him from Spurs so he went elsewhere.
Costly mistake, would have won the league if he'd signed.

Ah yes. The great Pat Jennings indeed. Probably my favourite ever keeper (at least so far!) Hands like dinner plates and always seemed to be in the right place. Must be one of towns greatest mistakes, and we've made a few!

Strange signing this the club can't rate Harry Wright very highly who's one year older but reportedly is going out on lone we don't seem to rate our own talent some who have gone onto greater things.

6ft isn't big enough for a keeper these days, he must be good.....let's hope.

Players that got away.............

How about Kevin Phillips. Drove up from Watford to sign and then diverted to Sunderland. He was someone who knew where the net was.

Gosh I'd forgotten about all of these! If Kevin Phillips had signed, we would have promoted c. 1998 or 1999 and still had Kieron Dyer and Bobby Petta perhaps, but maybe not Marcus Stewart. Gazza was the biggest one that got away. Perhaps relegation in 1986 would have been averted, you never know. Didn't know about Pat Jennings. I'm sure in about 1979 Bobby Robson was sniffing around Ray Wilkins before he went to Chelsea. Need to dig out my old annuals!

All's positive on the new keepers front, after last seasons offerings between the sticks it's welcome news. Credit to Bart though for the previous 3 seasons.

I think you will find it was wages which stopped Jennings joining Ipswich. His wage demands would have unbalanced the strict structure which Town operated. Also Wilkins was already at Chelsea. It was before his move to man u

Chris Felix- yep, just found it in the Ipswich Town annual 1981. Butch had handed in a transfer request and we made an offer. For some reason he chose Manchester United over us! The fool.......

Wilfred Bony, released by Swansea and without a club, only 30, gotta be worth a punt.
