Tickets on Door for Night of Comedy Raising Funds for Beattie Statue
Friday, 31st May 2019 08:52

Tickets will be available on the door for Proper Comedy, tonight's evening of comedy at Portman Road's Sir Bobby Robson Suite raising funds for the Kevin Beattie statue (8pm).

The evening will be headlined by Steve Day, who was a regular at Portman Road during the Bobby Robson era.

Day’s website describes him as “a truly unique comedian - warm, witty and engaging whilst dealing with the dilemmas of being a deaf man in a hearing world”.

“It’s an honour to be asked — I lived for a while in Lowestoft and loved watching Kevin and the other greats of Sir Bobby Robson’s day,” he said.

The MC is Scott Adams, while Ash Frith will be the opening act. The evening’s organiser Richard Jay, a Town fan since the Bill McGarry era and a TWTDer, will be up next, the event giving him his “one chance in life to play at Portman Road!"

Then on stage prior to headliner Day will be Alf, a Devon-based prop comedian, who was a semi-finalist on Britain’s Got Talent in 2018.

Tickets to the over-18s only event are available online here or from Archant’s offices in Princes Street or from Greshams for £12 in advance or for £16 on the door.

Led by the EADT and Ipswich Star in conjunction with BBC Radio Suffolk and TWTD, The Beat Goes On campaign was launched on December 18th last year on what would have been Beattie’s 65th birthday.

The current target is £110,000, although it is hoped that figure will be reduced as the campaign progresses, with £80,000 already having been raised.

You can make a donation online via the Go Fund Me page or send a cheque made payable to ‘The Beat Goes On’ to Kevin Beattie Statue Appeal, EADT, Portman House, 120 Princes Street, Ipswich, IP1 1RS.

There are also collection buckets at reception at the EADT’s offices and at BBC Radio Suffolk.

You can find The Beat Goes On campaign website here.

Sounds like a good event.

I cannot for the life of me make sense of that first sentence!
