Town Confirm Holy Signing Friday, 24th May 2019 16:21
Town have agreed a deal to sign goalkeeper Tomas Holy when his contract at current club Gillingham expires on June 30. Holy will join on a two-year contract with the club having an option for a third year.
Holy, 27, spent two years with the Gills and was ever-present in League One last season. He stands 6ft 9ins tall, which makes him the third tallest keeper in the world of professional football.
The giant Czech told the club website: “I enjoyed my two years at Gillingham and want to thank them for the opportunity they gave me but it feels the right time to take up a new challenge at Ipswich.
“It's a massive club and I’m looking forward to meeting up with the squad for pre-season and will be ready to play my part in helping Ipswich try to get back in the Championship.”
Rychnov nad Kněžnou-born Holy came through the ranks at Sparta Prague but featured only for their B team - having spent time on loan at Graffin Vlasim, Viktoria Zizkov and Fastav Zlin - before joining the Gills in the summer of 2017.
Holy, who has won caps with the Czech Republic at U16, U17 and U18s levels and who was linked with Arsenal last summer, made a total of 107 appearances for the Kent club.
Town have previously had one Czech player on their first team staff, another keeper, Jaroslav Drobny, however, the future full international didn't make a senior appearance in his spell at Town during 2006/07, although was on the bench on five occasions.

I agree with others here. Should command the box on crosses and corners, which we've lacked for a few years. Hopefully our coaching will help him get to the same level of shot stopping as Bart and he needs to be vocal. People forget quickly what Bart has done for us in previous seasons. Yes, he did not have a good campaign this year. Maybe it is time for him to move with all our best - We would have been in a lot worst position than we are now a long time ago had he not been with us. But hopefully Holy is as good a replacement we can hope and he seems to have the potential to be. Good signing.
I'd rather keep Bart for a tilt ay going straight back up and give this guy a season training with him. If we go up Bart stays for life if we don't Holy can step up.
I'm sorry for those who keep posting anti Chambers posts, but he is what will be needed to gel all the new players together and no one should question his loyalty and leadership on and off the field. He may not be the best player in the squad but he will be a great leader for us in Div 1. Bring back the fist pump Luke. Finishing position top 6.
