Wright Has Medical
Wright Has Medical

Former Town keeper Richard Wright will have a medical at Everton today before joining the Toffeemen for £5 million. The deal could be completed by the end of the week.

Town will not receive any percentage sell-on from Wright's move. When he left to join Arsenal, for a fee believed to be well below the £6 million often quoted, Town were not in a position to impose their own terms on the deal.

The previous summer, with Wright almost out of contract, the player and his agent Jonathan Barnett forced the club into agreeing a contract which meant that if one of a number of named sides came in with a bid of a certain amount then Town had to inform the player.

Arsenal came in with a bid and Wright moved on to Highbury where he won Premiership and FA Cup winners medals.

The prospect of another season or so as David Seaman's understudy seems to have turned Wright's attention to a move with David Moyes keen on him once his multiple bids for Derby's Mart Poom had failed.
