Drinan in Irish U21s Squad
Tuesday, 21st May 2019 15:32

Blues striker Aaron Drinan has been named in the Republic of Ireland U21s squad for the 2019 Maurice Revello Tournament in Toulon next month.

The competition begins on Monday 3rd June with Ireland facing Bahrain, China and Mexico in Group C which is being played in Provence.

Drinan, who has previously won one U21 cap, is currently on loan back in Ireland with his former club Waterford, for whom he has scored seven times in the League of Ireland with the season running through the summer.

The 21-year-old, who is on loan until June 30th, is contracted to Town until the summer of 2021.

Fellow Blues Barry Cotter and Corrie Ndaba were named in the previous U21s squad without winning a cap but are not included this time.

Elsewhere, former Blues striker Kieffer Moore, currently with Barnsley, has been named in a Wales squad for a training camp in Portugal, the 26-year-old's first international call.

Torquay-born Moore, who qualifies for Wales via his grandfather, was linked with a £2 million move to Bristol City at the weekend.

If Moore does move on then the Blues would receive a sell-on of what's likely to be 10 per cent of any profit on the £750,000 they received from the Tykes in January 2018.

Republic of Ireland U21s: Caoimhin Kelleher (Liverpool), Conor Kearns (UCD AFC), Darragh Leahy (Bohemians), Conor Masterson (Liverpool), Dara O'Shea (West Bromwich Albion), Liam Scales (UCD AFC), Lee O'Connor (Manchester United), Tyreke Wilson (Manchester City), Canice Carroll (Brentford), Jayson Molumby (Brighton and Hove Albion), Conor Coventry (West Ham United), Jason Knight (Derby County), Connor Ronan (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Neil Farrugia (UCD AFC), Stephen Mallon (Sheffield United), Zach Elbouzedi (Waterford), Simon Power (Norwich City), Jack Taylor (Barnet), Jamie Lennon (St. Patrick's Athletic), Adam Idah (Norwich City), Aaron Drinan (Ipswich Town, on loan at Waterford), Aaron Connolly (Brighton and Hove Albion).

I still have a feeling that Drinnan might come good, a good finisher. Fingers are crossed for him.

A forgotten man, with all the loans going on over the past year or so... Lambert needs to look at all these players in pre-season. I have a feeling he'll unearth a gem, and save a fortune in the process.

If the lad can play and score for Waterford he can play and score in Division One, lets hopefully see him Pre-season get a few games under his belt.
