Town Among Clubs Linked With Benfica Striker
Wednesday, 15th May 2019 11:20

Town are one of a number of clubs who reportedly could renew their interest in Benfica striker Chris Willock, who is said to be set to leave the Portuguese club.

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola West Bromwich, Hull City, Queens Park Rangers, the Blues and Norwich City were all keen on former Arsenal trainee Willock in January but Benfica weren’t prepared to allow him to depart.

However, it’s reported that Benfica are now set to allow Willock to exit on a permanent basis after the 21-year-old failed to break into the first team at the Estadio da Luz and that those clubs could renew their interest.

Londoner Willock joined Benfica having come through Arsenal’s academy, who joined aged five, in the summer of 2017, signing a five-year contract. For Benfica’s B side Willock has scored 22 goals in 63 games.

The 5ft 10 in tall former England U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 international made two sub appearances in the League Cup for the Gunners.

Town are certainly keen on adding strikers to their squad ahead of their League One campaign but the Blues would appear unlikely to be in a position to pay a fee for Willock.

They would also almost certainly be outgunned by the other clubs said to be interested in even if there proves to be some truth to the link.

Id stick with the Norwood link a much better option and i also think Kayden Jackson will show his worth in League 1.

Whilst i agree to some extent with others on here that no one wants to come to us (Not extactly true but you get the point) i can see some witht he right attitude being interested.

Think about it, would look good for them to come and hopefully be part of a promotion winning side, that could springboard some people and even if they moved on after to bigger clubs they would have done the job for us.

I am not for one minute thinking that this guy will come but what i can se is the potential with us to put yourself in the shop window.

Everyone knows we will be a scalp in league 1 but if there is any time to be part of a club that needs to be on the upwards trend its us and its now.

Not sure why i am being so positive, i must admit i have the feeling we are going to be poor in league 1 also at least to begin with, but i forever live in hope as we all have for a few years now. Ever the optimist i guess

Silly seasons kicked in early! If we have to compete with any clubs above us or half of league one we have no chance I’d rather have news when it’s real and gonna happen

Tractorclarke I love your positivity and keep it up I just fear we’ll do our usual and not pay the wages for people as well have another season of being one of the smallest budgets again it’s why we are where we are in afraid

Forget Benfica players we are in a situ where we could only get Bolton players in a fire sale.
