Nolan: We Should Have More Than Enough to Win Games in League One
Friday, 10th May 2019 17:39

Midfielder Jon Nolan says League One will be a different challenge to the Championship but believes the Blues will be capable of success during their first season in the third tier for 62 years.

Nolan, 27, helped his former club Shrewsbury Town to the League One play-off final in 2017/18.

“It will be different to the Championship. League One is more direct. There are not many teams who overly pass the ball,” Nolan told the club site.

“In League One you can play more off the cuff. In the Championship, it’s more structured. More teams have a set style of play. There is a difference in the quality and sharpness of the players as well.

“It’s obviously not a given but if we keep most of our team together and play like we showed we can do at stages during the season, that will be more than enough to win matches in League One.”

Meanwhile, former Blues and Shrews boss Paul Hurst, the man who brought Nolan to Portman Road last summer, is strongly tipped to become the new manager of Scunthorpe United, who were recently relegated to League Two.

Chris Felix. Watch any centre back in top 3 divisions for same conclusion.

Totally agree Timmy H. Its good to have a positive attitude but just get your heads down and let the football do the talking. To avoid looking like buffoons, players can simply reply 'we'll see'. Personally, I dont think we have the spine to mount a challenge. Really need to replace Chambers, a defensive central mid and two forwards. If Evans wont purchase then promote the youth. Given that Jacksons employment is primarily as a striker, a forward with pace who should be stretching centre backs, I found it rather disconcerting how few shots he actually had. Think Bishop (going forward) showed some glimpses and he has the ability to beat a man (providing he stays fit). Nolan began to settle in and find his feet. Judge still has quality. I really do think we have some good youngsters and hopefully some will toughen up and become first 11.

I think confidence levels with much of the newer Hurst additions will be higher in league one considering they're more familiar with it and the younger players will have more confidence to shine. I expect we'll see a very different team in league one.

I certainly would expect us to do fairly well but to mount a serious challenge we need a few new players [ Defenders & Strikers ] but rest assured it will not be easy but I am sure that PL will not let complacency set in.
