Owner Evans Thanks Season Ticket Holders
Thursday, 9th May 2019 11:48

Town owner Marcus Evans has written to the club’s season ticket holders thanking them for their support.

The Blues’ season ticket total had hit 11,748 by Monday’s early bird deadline, not enough to trigger a reduction in the price but 15 per cent up on this year’s figure of 10,200. Ninety-five per cent of existing season ticket holders renewed. Evans’s letter was emailed to season ticket holders this morning.

I am writing to thank you for pledging your support for the club for next season by purchasing a season ticket.

We have been delighted by the response that people like you have shown in signing up for 2019/20, with season ticket sales up by 15 per cent on last year. I truly believe we can repay you with entertaining and winning football next season.

Although I have cut prices over the last two years by up to 25 per cent, I still realise that watching your team play comes at a significant financial cost so I’d like to reiterate on behalf of Paul, the players and myself that we really do appreciate your support.

It’s been a challenging year for all connected to the club but if there is one positive to take, it’s undoubtedly the backing for the team that has come from the stands.

As Paul has said many times, the atmosphere here has been nothing like a club that has been in the position we have.

I think perhaps supporters have appreciated the way the team has played, in an entertaining style. We also have a young team, with players evolving through our academy system and into the first team.

Those players will need time to develop and fulfil their potential of course, but along with the experienced players we have here and a few new additions where needed, I strongly believe we are in a good position to move forward as a football club.

Once again, thanks for becoming a season ticket holder for next year. Owners, managers, players come and go in this game but it’s the fans that are the lifeblood of any football club and I will do everything I can to reward that support and bring success to Ipswich Town.

Have a good summer and see you at Portman Road in August.

Why should he give the discount?

Should Leeds get promoted for just missing 2nd?
Should a batsman be given a centuary for getting out on 99?
Should the shop sell me wine because I nearly have enough Money?
Should the bank lend me a mortgage because I nearly have the deposit.

The club did its part and priced season tickets pretty dam fairly, it did its bit, we as supporters didn't do ours. If you want to blame Evans for people not doing so you are looking in the wrong direction. Thats is down to us.

Nearly isn't doing it. The club was clear how many needed to be sold, not enough were jesus.

At least we will have 12 point head start on Bolton next year (Administration won't be allowed to happen to a club in this day and age was a sentence uttered on these very pages.

I don't see why the club should be held to ransom. You have to draw a line somewhere and it was drawn at 12k plus tickets, we all knew it.

Also was the ticket prices not the announcement?

Talbs77 if you're that desperate for the extended discount then write a letter to Marcus. As Barty has pointed out, season ticket prices have dropped last 2 seasons, even more so this season.

Tractorcam I don't need the money but there are a lot of people out there that do especially if bringing families.

Yeah they have dropped in last 2 years.....after being some of the most expensive in the country.

If extending for and extra 2 weeks brings in an extra 1000, plus match day revenue then that can't be a bad thing surely.

The point I'm making is we will need all the help we can get next season and the so called “ feel good factor” we soon dissipate if we get off to a bad start.

I'm not massively put out by this text - there's certainly nothing offensive about it - but adding it to all the other PR that has come out over the years, you have to ask yourself, "Isn't it just that? More PR." Obviously Marcus wants the club to succeed - that's in everyone's interests, surely - but the underlying tone still seems to be "business" over "passion." (Fair enough, I suppose: he's a businessman, not a supporter.) It's just that last sentence that makes me wonder:"I will do everything I can to reward that support and bring success to Ipswich Town." Hmm! We shall see. In the meantime, for those of us who lean towards the passionate end of the spectrum, the Blues go marching on.

Talbs what makes you think extending it for 2 weeks will bring in an extra 1,000? We only sold about 500 in the last 4 days judging by the count they were doing on twitter, people had 2 weeks to get one, 99% of interested fans will have purchased.

I live in Liverpool but that doesn't make me a Liverpudlian, why do you think I support Ipswich?! I moved out of Suffolk when I was 5 (not to Liverpool) but my blood is blue, I will always support the Town. This is probably the main reason I can't fathom the ultra cautious, better the devil you know mindset of many of you here, fans up here wouldn't put up with such asset stripping and decimation of their club and lap up a few easy platitudes.

Well said Marcus. I believe in you and I know the majority of fans still love and respect you. Don't listen to the moaners, stay positive, stay strong in the face of this adversity. Good luck ace 👍

Now reward that excellent support by ensuring the team is significantly invested in to achieve promotion. Not millions, but adequately to win the league.

It beggars belief how some of you actually appreciate this idiot. From the verge of premier league to league one and some of you thank him . Amazing and actually very sad.

All the moaners that are harping on about extending the early bird deadline, are you the ones that haven't renewed yet or meant to buy one for the first time and would have pushed it to 12000?
What about the word DEADLINE do you not understand.
You can't move the goalposts on the pitch, so why think you should be able to off it.
Fans had their chance for this opportunity and didn't take it, a bit like our strikers not taking their chances on the field and scoring. You know the ones you so like to put down.

And not even a quick decline, a slow lingering degeneration over 11 years!! Tragic
