Lambert: We'll Look at Whether to Appeal Red Card
Sunday, 5th May 2019 15:53

Blues boss Paul Lambert says Town could appeal against the red card shown to skipper Luke Chambers during this afternoon’s 3-2 victory over Leeds at Portman Road.

Chambers was dismissed for the first time for Town for a foul on Whites striker Kemar Roofe, who subsequently hit the resultant penalty over the bar, and was sent off by referee Gavin Ward.

Under a 2016 rule change players committing accidental fouls that deny a goalscoring opportunity should be cautioned rather than dismissed. However, what a referee deems a deliberate foul still incurs a red card. Chambers’s foul looked more a tangle of feet than a conscious attempt to bring down Roofe.

“I’d like to get that clarified and see where that is,” Lambert said when asked whether he felt his skipper had been treated harshly.

“I’d have to see what actually happens, whether it’s a tangle of legs or Roofe’s offside or he’s not offside, I’d have to see it.

“If they get given a penalty, that should be the punishment. To send him off is a bit harsh, if it is double jeopardy I think it’s wrong. I don’t know the referee’s take on it.”

Is an appeal against the dismissal, which as it stands will see Chambers miss the opening game of next season’s League One campaign, possible? “Yes, if that’s the case, then I think we’d have to look at that.”

The red card was Chambers's third of his career, his second for former club Nottingham Forest having come seven years ago.

Well the one bit of good news is we have Luke Wolfenden to partner Nsiala at the back next season, Luke's had a cracking loan season with Swindon, and has developed into a very decent defender, I'm sorry to say but Luke Chambers days are numbered for us, he will struggle as he does now with the strikers in Div 1 next season, he gets turned far too easily and is a liability, he's been a loyal servant for us, BUT now is the time to give him the option of leaving or a job in scouting, we have to make way for our youth to come in and bring a fresh approach for our next season's challenges, sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind, I don't want to see Chambers embarrassed on the field of play, as he certainly is going that way,

How come every manager who has been here in all the time Luke Chambers has been here has continued to pick him week in week out without fail. if he is as bad as some of the people on here say he is do you not think he would have been found out by now.
As for next season, we'll get ready for another forty plus games from him, because PL will have no qualms on playing him. Without doubt one of the top three captains ITFC has ever had alongside Mills and Holland.
Also if he is that bad why was he named player of the year?

Andy Nelson, Jason de Vos, Gareth Macauley, Terry Butcher & Billy Baxter amongst others were IMO better players and captains

I know I am in the minority here by the looks of it but why is everybody on the captains back all of the time?

The number of interceptions and headers he made yesterday was immense and I really feel he will back up next season.

It was a fantastic day yesterday and why cant we forget the negatives and just enjoy it?

For the record thought ref was having a decent game for once until he gave that very poor penalty decision----loads of people and loads of legs and definitely not a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Lets be POSITIVE guys-----loved that banner at front of North Stand before the game, thats what we want!!

Have a good summer everybody and see you all back in August---BLUES FOREVER!!

Razor. Agree with everything u say up until the penalty. Was just roofe and chambers anywhere near the ball. And roofe was in the penalty area with only bart between him and the goal so clearly a goalscoring opportunity.

Dissboy i remember you saying much the same about the best central defender at Town for many years, Berra, not so long ago !! How we have missed him since he was allowed to walk away .

Wickets... i think we should have kept Tommy Smith much more than Brera, thats my opinion of course. What is much more fact is Chambers is making so many mistakes that are costing us games! FACT!!!!

Barnsey more to the point if the Young ones or any of the team see Chambers making mistakes, is it not saying to the rest that mistakes are ok? We have a losing mentality and where do you think that is coming from?

Luke would be much better and so would we when he stops playing!!

Please ITFC.....can we let the red card stand, and punish captain almighty with the ripping up of his new sham contract.
I would love this to be a totally new start for us. I would love this to be a totally new era for us.
I would love instant promotion next season.
This just simply will not happen if the teams leadership isn't changed.
This change alone would give us half a chance.
For Luke Chambers to carry on being the undroppable one, frankly gives us no chance.
A shambolic defender and player, regardless of captaincy.

Suffolkboy Lol. Please look at the seasons final league table. Then cast your mind over to Chambo...... you seriously believe if we carry on with this, we will all of a sudden become a decent side?
We will all of a sudden stop giving away needless soft goals?
He is our mistake ridden captain, and ultimately the buck stops with him when the team is on the field.
Chambo is down as our worst performing captain of all time. Over 30 games or 150 games.
Has just led us down to our lowest position in a life time, our worst season by a million miles in a life time. If promotion next season is to be achieved, this can't include Chambo.
We can't have someone leading the side who can't organise, can't defend, and can't play.
It really is that simple.

Les57. Yes he's been found out this season. Embarrassing position for the club to now find itself in. Thanks Chambo, keep up the good work!
Do you not think if LC was even half as great as you seem to believe, he would not have been sold at some point over last 5 years.
This embarrassing season has come to an end in most respects because the teams senior players just wasn't up to it. The likes of Chambo, Skuse and Jonas. The 3 players nobody wanted.
The 3 players nobody obviously thought was much good.
The 3 players nobody obviously thought was worth anything.
Not one of the three has performed in any way shape or form since the 1st game of the season.
All three have been found out, and shows all potential suitors, that they made the correct decision.
Not 1 of the 3 are good enough. Not for the Championship or L1.

ITFCSince73.......Totally with you mate on your analysis of Captain Calamity. Isn't it strange that when he was red carded, the remaining players actually grouped together as a unit and prevented Leeds scoring again, in fact, we scored the third for the first time at home this season. The proof is there week in and week out, as much as he is a great 'club man', he has been a totally liability this season and has been left scratching his head week in and week out. He has been passed more times than an senior citizen on a mobility scooter and IS the weak link in the town defence as was proved when he went off. I know I will be marked down but these ARE the facts, clueless, inept, liable and slow. He just doesn't watch the game and if he does must be 20 seconds behind anyone else. I would think, if they were completely honest, any other player would admit to being really nervous when playing along side him.
Please don't appeal the red card, unless you can guarantee at least an extra 10 games ban.
Say what you want but the facts are there for ALL to see!

WOW this is the first time I've seen an article that most of the comments are from people that actually watch games if you look at all goals this season conceded by us LC was the mistake that set it up some where along the line!!!!! in my eyes he's not a leader be club captain for everything he does off the pitch but clearly the worst footballer we have had in years get Wolfenden back along side fearless Toto who is getting better with every game and a goal scorer and we will be ok
