Town: Game On, as Things Stand Wednesday, 3rd Apr 2019 20:16 Town have tweeted that Saturday’s game at Bolton Wanderers will go ahead as planned as things stand at present, however, it’s reported that the Safety Advisory Group’s prohibition order at the University of Bolton Stadium currently still remains in place. As previously reported, news regarding the game is expected in the morning when it’s anticipated it will be confirmed that the match will be played as scheduled. Earlier this evening, following the an emergency meeting of the Safety Advisory Group, BBC Radio Manchester reported that Saturday’s match - and the Trotters’ Tuesday fixture against Middlesbrough - would go ahead as long as sufficient staffing levels were met. However, they have subsequently issued a correction stating that as things stand the prohibition order remains in place, presumably while staffing numbers are confirmed, but with further news expected in the morning.
The matches were cast into doubt yesterday when the Safety Advisory Group withdrew the ground’s safety certificate with the Trotters “unable to commit to meet the obligations of its safety certificate until after a scheduled appearance at the High Court”. This morning’s High Court hearing, relating to £1.2 million owed to HMRC and other debts, was adjourned until May 8th to allow a takeover by former Watford chairman Laurence Bassini to be completed and for the debts to be paid.
