Sir Bob Unveils Statue
Sir Bob Unveils Statue

Today Sir Bobby Robson unveiled his own statue behind the Cobbold Stand at Portman Road to quite a large crowd of former players and fans of Ipswich Town FC. Even a few Geordies has made the long trip down from the North East.

But it was our celebration of the man that had given us so much to be thankful for over his 14 years at the Club, and when he spoke it was clear that he still feels so very strongly about the place where he still has his principal home.

He was clearly nervous and embarassed too by the proceedings. He apologised for his voice cracking at one point, and offered that if anyone couldn't hear him at the back of the crowd, he'd be quite willing to swap places with them.

He wished that his father could have been with him, and also that Patrick Cobbold could have seen this day although "we all would have been smashed already". He remembered the time when they were sitting on the bench at Leicester being 2-0 down with only 10 minutes gone. Patrick was complimenting Bobby on the good start to the game when Bobby had to explain that it was actually Leicester that were in the blue shirts.

Sir Bobby Robson concluded that Ipswich should get promoted back to the Premiership, as it was there that they belonged.
