Kenlock Pleased to Get His Chance After Early Frustration
Wednesday, 6th Mar 2019 15:40

Left-back Myles Kenlock admits he was keen to go out on loan earlier in the season when he wasn’t involved in the Town first team.

However, the 22-year-old, who made only one sub appearance under Paul Hurst, has been involved in the senior side more regularly under Paul Lambert and has started all but one of the last seven matches.

“It was disappointing for me at the start because all I wanted to do is be out there on the pitch and playing games,” Kenlock told the club site.

“That wasn’t happening so I would have liked the opportunity to go out on loan but it’s worked out for the best.

“I’ve had setbacks my whole life so I know with faith and hard work you will overcome what is put in front of you.

“As the season has gone on I’ve got back to full fitness and have got some game time and now it’s about doing all I can for the team to get as many points as possible.”

Academy product Kenlock, who is out of contract in the summer but with the club having an option to keep him for a further season, has now made 46 starts and four sub appearances, so far without scoring a senior goal.

I see a certain Mason Greenwood played in Manchester United's champions league win at PSG last night aged 17.
Makes a bit of a mockery of suggestions that our youngsters, many of whom are two or three years older than him, will be unable to compete in the third tier of English football next season.
If this is the case, perhaps they aren't as good as we all think?

Now THERE is a club that gives its youngsters a chance.

Exactly NSV. It's all about being given a chance. I don't think Evan's being the tight arse he is likes spending money on the acdamy knowing a lot of players wont step up. Plus we have one of the best in the business over seeing it all.
But its typical as a comment above, you see the the Wolf in 1 game, he has an average one then suggestions that he might not be good enough....whether we like it or not. Theres no money for town to come back. The youngsters are our only way. And yes NSV, we are talking about L1 not throwing them in at the top of the game. The investment has already been done.

Remember the youngsters at Luton last year?
The optimism for the future?
Our 1st team wouldn't beat Luton at present.

I really want Kenlock to do well but he needs to learn a lot. His defensive positioning is really poor and he gets caught out way to often, he doesn't know which runners to go will and isn't quick or mobile enough to play wing back. His passing is also not good. Opposition teams target his side because they know he's a weak link in our side.

I know I sound harsh but he has to do so much better if he wants to make it at a decent level.

Got give him run till end season at least got good potential and not fair to judge so quick when come into poor team who can't defend anyway. Get up to scratch in last 10 games and should be flying in league 1 next season.

At this moment in his development I think he's league 1 standard. He's not a championship defender. But with time and practise he could still be what we need going forward. But recently I haven't rated him

Kenlock, after not many games. Looks of the pace etc etc etc. Very much like all our so called seasoned pro,s.
He,s come into the weakest town team in history.
Possibly the weakest Championship team in history.
Give the lad a break for Gods sake.
Of course we can improve things instantly, add more youngsters and ditch the so called season pro,s now.
Before we get ourselves a record come May that none of us want.

Hardy. Then that's great. Luckily we don't now require championship players. Only players capable of L1. If and only if we start youngsters now they will be up to speed come Aug.
This is the only way back for ITFC. You've heard it and seen for yourselfs our owner will not invest in quality players.
There is no money for quality players.
It's the youngsters from this day forward. If not we stay in L1 or go on to worse.
I'll say again we have no money for any quality during this summer. I know full well our youngsters aren't up to championship standard, but we don't require that from them yet. Only 1st team experience. The experience from our remaining games is vital if we are serious about an instant bounce back.

At this moment in his development.......he's 22. The development has been done...he now needs 1st team games.
Much like Dozzell are we waiting until he's 28 before we consider him ready?
Like the sensible comment above, let's learn from Luton.
Who would have thought 5 years back they would be playing higher standard than us. They swerved journeymen, and have reaped rewards. Changed management, but the quality in squad remains.

A friend said to me the other day about the under 23's

" If you haven't made it by 23 years of age, I can't see when you will "

Apart from Ian Wright playing Sunday morning football and Luke Vardy playing nationall league at 23, Les Ferdinand another. I get your point NSV. Dozzell is the one I cant understand. Considered a strong and skillfull player, in fact one of the countries best u23,s by St George's park. But doesn't or hasn't had a real look in at town. He will only get strength by 1st team games. I would imagine U23 games for town must be uncomfortable for him. The England connections says he should be playing 1st team by now. Especially as he plays for a piss poor team.

Yes 73.
The reports linking him to Arsenal did make me laugh.
Can't get into the championships bottom team, what would be do there?
Sweep the terraces?
