Drinan Rejoins Waterford on Loan
Wednesday, 13th Feb 2019 22:16

Town striker Aaron Drinan has rejoined Waterford on loan until June 30th with the Irish season about to get under way.

The 20-year-old moved to the Blues from the League of Ireland side in his native Ireland in January 2018 but hasn’t made a first-team appearance despite having been on the bench on five occasions under Mick McCarthy.

"I'm delighted to be back at the club. I really enjoyed my time here before, I scored six or seven goals last time I think and I can't wait to get started again," Drinan said.

"As soon as I heard [manager] Alan [Reynolds] and the club were interested, I wanted to come back straight away; I jumped at the chance.

"I've met some of the squad since I got in and I'm looking forward to meeting the others. Friday is a big game for the club [League of Ireland Premier Division opener at home to Shamrock Rovers] and I'm looking forward to being back at the RSC again."

Drinan, who spent last week with the Irish U21s squad, was on loan at Sutton United earlier in the season.

Waterford, who will be in 2019/20's Europa League, the first time they have played in Europe since 1986, are skippered by ex-Blues defender Damien Delaney.

Damien Delaney there's a sight for sore eyes...
Perhaps he could have done a job at LCB (probably a bit past it now... but might have been worth a punt!)

Been at the club long enough to know whether he is good enough for the level - evidently not yet, so send him out for games ✅

I am guessing they are not seeing enough in training and he is way down the list of strikers for match day! A punt that has not worked out and he seems super keen to return home so good luck to the lad

I wonder if that's another one on his way out?

Jpring89, another Mick classic? His ability to unearth talent and bring form out of players was second to none. Not every signing is going to be a huge success and he is only 20 so who knows? What he does need is time and minutes on the pitch which we cannot afford players like this right now, we need the finished article. That said, with Freddie and Jack both out of the picture for a while it doesn't look promising for him if PL is sending him out on loan in those circumstances.
