Lambert, Town and Norwich Charged By FA
Tuesday, 12th Feb 2019 15:48

Town, boss Paul Lambert and Norwich City have been charged by the FA in relation to incidents during Sunday’s East Anglian derby at Carrow Road.

An FA statement reads: “Norwich City and Ipswich Town have been charged following their EFL Championship fixture on Sunday.

“It is alleged that they failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during both the 45th and 90th minutes, as well as their officials in the 45th minute.

“In addition, Paul Lambert has also been charged with misconduct in relation to his behaviour in the 45th minute. Both clubs and Mr Lambert have until 18:00 on 15 February 2019 to respond to the charge.”

The main flashpoint came just before half-time when the teams and then staff became embroiled in an altercation after Norwich players reacted to a foul on Max Aarons by Jon Nolan. Lambert and Norwich's head of performance Chris Domogalla - almost certainly in a case of mistaken identity with goalkeeper-coach Ed Wooten now understood to have been the Canaries coach involved - both sent to the stands.

Towards the end of the match, there was a further confrontation after a Flynn Downes foul on Emiliano Buendia with Canaries sub Todd Cantwell also among those involved.

Meanwhile, Norwich boss Daniel Farke says he hopes Lambert avoid a sanction following his red card.

"In general all I can say is my coaches Ed Wooten and Chris Domogalla were warned, no individual charges or whatever, so it’s a sign that it was not too bad," he said.

“I hope it will be the same for Paul, I don’t know what happened exactly in this situation, but I have a lot of understanding for coaches who are under pressure, they are full of emotions and you want to protect your own player.

“They were 1-0 down and you want to show your chest and be a bit competitive, perhaps it was over the line but it is not up to me to judge it, but I think it was not too bad and I hope there will be no individual charges against Paul.

“I’ve made it clear several times that he has had such an unbelievable career, he won the Champions League, much more successful than I was.

“He achieved promotion to the Premier League [as Norwich manager], I’m full of respect for him.

“I understand that in a special game sometimes you are really under pressure and I think in general his behaviour in the last months and years was okay, so I hope there will be no individual charge — but it’s not up to me to judge it.”

Seems the FA either haven't ,or haven't thought of using technology / cameras to illuminate their actions and deliberations !?
BUT then the load of ante diluvians don't appear willing and able to get open , above board and ohonest ,let alone courageous about anything they do!
That's not to excuse anybody , let alone PL, from this shambles ,but we'd all like to see mayptters generally better explained and understood .
Little doubt refereeing standards are pretty poor this season ( Assts included ) but equally they're under ever increasing scrutiny from us all !

I wish the Football Association would contribute a bit more...they like putting their feet down when it comes to unsavoury incidents such as Sunday but why don't they act on things like FFP more stringently and the amount of foreign players starting games (obviously referring to the Premiership here)...otherwise they're good for very little.

Focus of attention from the FA is always on the resulting problem and never the cause. Perhaps the bigger picture is one that is too big for them to solve? The tackle from Nolan was not great, but the big issue was the reaction from other players, in particular the Norwich lad who ran 30yds to get himself involved! That was the flash point, so to could have been the ridiculous theatrics from Steippermann to try and get Chalobah sent off. What if that had been successful? 10 men for town at a time when they were still (just) in the game and potentially a 2 match ban for a player we very much need right now? I could go into a huge essay now about my views on stamping out this kind of thing in football but csn sum up my opinion very quickly, it's time to learn from Rugby Union. Respect for referees is imperitive and please, please, please introduce the 10 minute sin bin for clowns like Stiepermann! Yellow cards count for nothing to players, 10 minutes on the bench would have far more impact.

Saxonblue74 - spot on with the sin bin idea! But probably makes too much sense for the FA
