Sears Out For Nine Months as Town Suffer Another ACL Injury
Monday, 11th Feb 2019 13:13

Striker Freddie Sears has been ruled out for at least nine months having sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury during Sunday’s 3-0 East Anglian derby loss at Norwich City.

"Sears, 29, was subbed just before the break following a challenge with Tom Trybull with a scan confirming he damaged his ACL.

“The scan has confirmed a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee,” Blues physio Matt Byard told the club site.

""“He will see a specialist later this week who will determine the timeframe, but it’s likely that surgery will take place in the next two weeks.

“We will know more from the specialist but with this type of injury, you are looking at nine to 12 months recovery.”""

Sears added: “I’m obviously devastated but I want to thank the fans for their support yesterday.”

The injury is a big blow for the Blues’ already fading hopes of avoiding the drop with the former West Ham and Colchester man having scored six goals since Paul Lambert took charge in October.

Town recently took up an option to keep Sears at Portman Road for the 2019/20 season.

Already sidelined for a similar length of time with cruciate injuries are midfielder Grant Ward and striker Ben Morris, while another young frontman, Ben Folami, is out for a similar period with an achilles injury.

Midfielder Andre Dozzell missed all but the first 45 minutes of last season with an ACL injury suffered on the opening day.

If we didn't have sh*t luck, we'd have none at all.

Gutted fro Freddie.

Any good news on the horizon?...

I feel so sorry for the lad as he is just getting back to his best again under Paul.He will be a great lose.Nows the time for one of the new lads to step up to the mark.
This really is a season to forget, one of the worst I can remember in supporting the Town for over 55 years.🙈

Terrible news for Freddie. For us fans, I can't remember the last time there was good news. What a depressing time. It seems than even the gods are against us. Can't wait for the season to end.

Get well soon Freddie you've had some proper moments of the old Sears this season and you'll be missed.

Mr Lambert the need for another striker on loan is now the only thing that matters if we want to score another goal this season let alone get a result !!

Very sad as he was one of the very few shining lights we have had this season.

Gutted for Freddie as he is a real TEAM player and will do whatever role is necessary. Overlooked by Hurst but PL played him in the right position and he got his confidence back and goals started to flow. Wish him well for a speedy (but not rushed) recovery. I honestly cannot remember a season that had so many hammer blows to us as a club. But like in real life keep the faith and lets turn the corner COYB!

Really feel for Freddie first and foremost, quite late in his career for a serious injury like this. Really fear we may have seen the best of him now but hope I'm wrong!

I'm not going to say that this reduces any chance we had of getting out of the crater we are in, as they were already zero, but i think this all but ends any chance of not finishing with the worst points total ever. Gutted for Freddie as many have said he was one shining light this season... I dont know where next years promotion push can come from. We look utterly hopeless and I can see us being the new Leyton Orient or Coventry City

There has to be some sort of messenger of doom hanging over this football club. I have never known such a sustained spell of diabolical luck in all my life.

Very sad news ... only little bit of quality we had left . Freddie Sears 6 goals this season. Next best Edwards and Jackson with 4 and Lambert thinks we “are bang in the fight” ..... I think not Mr Lambert

Such a rotter of a season, but I'll still be supporting the boys til the end. Such a shame as Freddie was getting pretty effective again and he's such a team player. Wishing you a speedy return! We can't give up yet. If we're going down we'll be back, but we ain't down yet! If Judge scores yesterday it's a totally different animal. We'll have chances, and there's still time (just about)

Gotta say hes Arguably been our best player going forward under Lambert.
Hope he recovers well for next season in league one.

Is anyone in the Club stopping to examine the circumstances in which these injuries have come about : is there anything at all common or familiar to each ? What training exercises have the players been through, and for how long and with what regularity : is our training or training surfaces a factor ?
It must be devastating for ALL those involved ,players, Management ,colleagues & family : of course we as supporters can only share the concerns but I wish Freddie & all those currently injured the very best & whilst I've no doubt all the talented physios and ‘medical ‘ staff will pull together to help ,at the same time our moral support and their own resolution will be so important !
BAD luck FS , get better ASAP!
