Blues midfielder Teddy Bishop has signed a new contract which runs to the summer of 2021 plus an option for a further year. The 22-year-old’s current terms were due to end in the summer.

“Teddy is a very talented footballer and he’s got the opportunity now to stay fit and play games,” manager Paul Lambert told the club site.

“He’s missed a lot of football over the last few years with injuries but he’s worked hard to get himself fit.

“We have to look after him but he’s made an impact in games and that’s what we want from him. He has to leave potential at the door now.”

Academy product Bishop added: "I'm delighted to sign for another two and a half years. The target now is to play as many games as I can, score goals, get assists and win games - it's as simple as that.

"The staff have been really good with me since they've come in. They've been patient so it's time to repay them now."

True his time here might be ultimately be limited; but by signing an extended contract, knowing how the cookie is likely to crumble, shows both loyalty and commitment to a club that's supported him through some difficult periods. Jason Dozzell, on today's Suffolk Radio pre-match show, was full of praise for TB - saying ‘there's a real player in there'. I trust JD's judgement. Be great if TB both starts tomorrow, and gets the winner against our puffed up near neighbours! COYB!

As for bishop going in the transfer window, that was the 1st thing that came to my mind 😂 I thought that when Bart signed. And I can't help but think he would have been had he not suffered a massive drop in form! You just can't help but feel cynical and and expect the worst after this season can you?!

Swn97 added 09:18 - Feb 10 And before any of you clever clogs make any quips, yes I do have a wife. She's not much of a looker and not very exciting but she's very reliable. She's not very entertaining in the bedroom either; perhaps one good performance every year or so. But life isn't about having fun and taking risks is it. Be careful what you wish for.
