Keane Set to Switch International Allegiance to Ireland
Monday, 28th Jan 2019 08:44

Blues loan striker Will Keane is set to switch his international allegiance to the Republic of Ireland.

Stockport-born Keane qualifies for Ireland via his father but rebuffed the FAI's interest when an academy player at Manchester United to win caps for England at U16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 levels.

His twin brother central defender Michael, currently with Everton, played for Ireland’s U17s and U19s before switching to England and has won five full caps.

Now, according to the Irish Independent, striker Keane, who is on loan with the Blues from Hull City, is in the process of filing the paperwork required to change his allegiance to Ireland, now managed by ex-Town manager Mick McCarthy.

Keane has scored once in three starts and one sub appearance since joining Town on loan until the end of the season earlier in the month.

Meanwhile, fellow Blues loanee Collin Quaner is among numerous footballers to have made donations to a GoFundMe page which has raised cash for a private search for missing Cardiff City striker Emiliano Sala and pilot Dave Ibbotson, whose plane disappeared over the Channel last Monday. The official search was called off on Thursday.

Quaner donated €500 (£430) to the fund, which has now topped €326,000 (£280,000), while PSG's Kylian Mbappe, Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny, Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan, Nantes manager Vahid Halilhodzic, Leicester winger Demarai Gray, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot and Bayern Munich's Corentin Tolisso are also among the players to have contributed to the fund for the new search which is now under way.

Where he'll have to cope with McCarthy's sly remarks about how the club has gone downhill since he decided to leave!

Makes sense. A Mick McCarthy type of player if ever I've seen one.

Why waste your time slagging MM off. We all know his time had come. Club was going nowhere before his time

I was surprised to notice prior to Alan Judge joining that we no longer had any ROI players in the first-team squad.

Erm, he'll have to get selected first.

He joins ITFC and quickly learns what respect MM had within the team and so it becomes an easy decision.

Great stuff, ROI could do with Keane up front. Could be a good foil for Didz. Word is Bamford & Andros Townsend will declare for ROI along with Rice.
Good luck with ROI Will!

Fortunately you you don't lose talent but unfortunately you do lose pace after horrific injuries. Like Michael Owen I feel this lads grip on the game has lost him. I really hope I'm proved wrong but yet I feel the championship is a tough ask for him yet league one..............

It becomes an easy decision when his namesake moves on

As soon as he joined town, and after speaking to the cozy club 1st hand. He knew the ROI would be for him. MM loves a target man, and loves hoof ball even more.
MM loves journeymen, especially those with limited ability and have been injury prone.
The type of player proved to be no good for any championship team worth its salt.
A typical MM type player.

MM did the club so good given the limited resources but it was time for him to move on. Can we leave it at that??
