Town Face Competition For Pilkington From Latics
Tuesday, 8th Jan 2019 22:39

Town are facing competition for Cardiff City winger Anthony Pilkington from another Championship club TWTD understands to be Wigan Athletic.

Talks regarding the 30-year-old's switch to the Blues remain ongoing, Pilkington having previously played for Town boss Paul Lambert at Norwich City.

However, the Republic of Ireland international hails from Blackburn and it may be that a move back to the North West closer to his family appeals as he makes his decision on his future.

The Latics and local rivals Rovers were both linked with Pilkington at the end of last week.

Pilkington is out of favour at Cardiff, having not featured at any stage for the Premier League side this season.

The Blues are hoping to take on the remaining months of his Cardiff contract, which is up in the summer, in much the same way as they did with the signings of Mustapha Carayol and Stephen Gleeson last January.

surely wigan's training facilities are not up to the same standard as ours though.

Hope PL is the big pull here. May also be the first test of ME's ambition in this window too?

If Pilkington wants to move back closer to home (lots of players do), then ME may not be able to do anything to change his mind. Money v quality of life. For a lot of folk (not just footballers), it is not always the best financial deal that works.

...... let's just hope that if it doesn't happen, it's down to no fault of our Club.

We've stalled in the past, let's not continue to do that. Had we not done so, we may well have not been in the dire position we find ourselves right now.

Disappointed if he choses Wigan but not broken hearted. We do need a goal scoring midfielder, right back and centre back at the bare minimum before January is over.

Also ship out about 5 players who are just not good enough..without delay

Oh the two I would say Quaner is far more important we do have other people who can play on the wing but desperately need a big target man.

only a fool would choose rainy wigan and the north west over sunny suffolk...

After reports, thought we would lose Quaner to Wigan too, to be honest, so pleased we got him in at least. The odds seems stacked against us getting Pilkington in. Hope we've got someone else lined up.

I'd like us to get Pilkington but if it doesn't happen we move on.
In terms of moving Ipswich up north that would be ideal as I live in Leeds. Who do I speak to for this to be arranged? Phil? Can you help.......

Assuming the financials are the same/similar why would he choose Ipswich? They start with an 11 point advantage over us and so are more likely to be able to pay him Championship level wages for the next few seasons too.
The only way we'll get him is if ME throws a bucketload of money at him for the rest of the season - and I wonder if ME sees Dawkins as a cheaper alternative?
Have to go now, I'm just about to go give up hope...

Geographically if you move Ipswich directly north we would end up in Norfolk !😮 Be careful what you wish for Town fans !

If this is true then so be it.Could have made a big improvement to the midfield but we move on.There is know point in trying to get players in who do not really fancy coming to our club.
I'm sure Paul has other players in mind, but ask yourself are we an attractive alternative at the moment.we are more like beggars I'm sad to say pleedind to join a sinking ship.
I just hope,I'm wrong and it hurts me to say this.
But let's look on the bright side, remember we are IPSWICH.! And we will arise again.🤔

Six Prem teams went out of the FA Cup at the weekend. There must be dozens of players available on loan whose only chance of a start was in the cup.
