Lambert: Evans to Speak to Knudsen About Contract
Wednesday, 21st Nov 2018 14:16

Town boss Paul Lambert has revealed that owner Marcus Evans is set to speak to left-back Jonas Knudsen about a new contract. The 26-year-old’s current terms are up in the summer and, speaking to the Danish media earlier in the week, said he was yet to hear anything from the Blues about a new deal.

Previous manager Paul Hurst had said in the summer that no contract offer would be forthcoming until Knudsen had shown him he was worth one but Lambert has seen enough in his short time involved to recommend that the six-times-capped Danish international be offered new terms.

Lambert met with Evans and Lee O’Neill, who we understand has taken on a more general football operations role at the club while continuing as academy director, at Playford Road on Monday.

“I don’t view it like that,” Lambert said when the situation under the previous manager was outlined to him.

“I spoke with Jonas today, obviously I knew his contract is up. Marcus is going to speak to him anyway and try to sort things out there.

“I don’t judge anything by what happened before, I can only see Jonas over the last few weeks and he’s been very, very good.

“He’s a Danish international and has played a lot of games in the Championship, so I recommended when I spoke to Marcus and Lee that he’s one of the lads they should speak to.”

Lambert says no one else’s contract situation needs to be addressed immediately: “Not really because everybody’s quite secure. Other than Jonas coming out of contract, I think Teddy Bishop’s out of contract and he’s just coming back. Jonas is the main one, but everyone else is settled.”

What a breath of fresh air PL is.

I'm still not convinced by Jonas. He has good games and another day he seem to go missing or make silly errors. I'd love to see Kenlock get a run in the team when fit. It may transpire that PL can get more consistency from Jonas so we need to hang on to him.

All the bed wetters who lost the plot yesterday can calm down now.

If PL rates him highly in the little time he has been here and says he deserves a contract then I guess everyone now needs to get of JK back as that is 3 managers plus the Denmark manager who obviously rate him.

Good news I know plenty only see what they want to see about his game and want him out but the fact is he an international player still improving plenty of experience and if needed can play in the middle of defense, how much would a replacement cost?

I think this says more about Lambert's attitude to HIS contract: despite signing a 3 year deal I wasn't convinced he'd stay, but if he's giving time and thought to players' time here beyond June then he's indicating that he's in for the long haul (relatively).

Has anyone thought for one moment, that perhaps the "Jonas hoof ball" is something that the previous two managers have 'instructed' him to do? Behind that 'hoof ball' player is more than likely a darned good player. If there is, I'm sure PL will find it & use it.
Don't be so harsh on Jonas, I think he'll turn out to be a good player if he's better 'coached' than say, previous managers!

1RWR... I'd be perfectly happy if you were proven to be right here but I can't see it. Knudsen can't pass the ball very well (short or long), and he cannot cross the ball very well, and we've conceded more goals as a result of his long throws than we've scored, and he goes missing defensively all the time. We have had some very good fullbacks at this football club over the years, and in my opinion Knudsen isn't one of them.

I believe that his comments in the summer were poor, and in the last few days he has spoken about his lack of commitment to the club once again. If anybody else comes in for him in January he will be off... if nobody comes in for him he will wait until the end of the season (to once again see if he can find ANY other club) before deciding whether or not to accept the new contract that ME is about to offer him.

Prove me wrong Jonas.....

I think Kenlock deserves a run in the team, Jonas in my opinion is too error prone.

Jonas really is marmite amongst the fans. I have always seen him as a decent versatile player and always good at the back. Many of his cross pitch long balls have been absolutely pin-point so not sure why he is being criticized for this. Skuse is a far far worse passer of the ball and he is supposed to be a central midfielder.
