U18s Defeated By Sky Blues
Saturday, 10th Nov 2018 21:42 by James Ager

A young Town U18 side fell to their second consecutive league defeat as they lost 1-0 to Coventry City and were reduced to 10 men at Playford Road on Saturday afternoon.

In a fairly even first half, the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock was when Kian Ronan's half-volley from 20 yards out was parried away by keeper Tom Bilson.

Town stopper Toby Egan did well to deny Harrison Nee as the hour mark approached but on 70 he was beaten by William Bapaga who latched onto a long ball and fired into the bottom corner.

Seven minutes later French midfielder Lounes Foudil was shown a straight red card for a headbutt on Lewis White in front of referee Samuel Everitt, but the visitors defended well and the closest Town came to equalising was when Ryley Scott side-footed wide from a freekick.

Meanwhile, the U18s are in action again on Tuesday in the Suffolk Premier Cup against Walsham le Willows at Summer Road.

Town have fielded an U18s team in the competition since re-entering in 2015. Last season they exited at the quarter-final stage when they were beaten 2-1 at Leiston in the final minute.

U18s: Egan, Viral (Henderson 7), Ronan, Scott, Fehrenbach (Siziba 31), Vega, Ruffles, Baker, Reed (Curtis 55), Gibbs, Foudil. Unused: Alley, Simpson.

Watched this match. The young Ipswich team were unlucky not to win by far the better side. The sending off was justified what was the lad thinking. Thought 15 year old Gibbs was a stand out. Gibbs was unlucky not to score having one cleared off the line and shaving the top of the crossbar from 20yrds has a real talent.

Great to see the youth yesterday the future looks good. Totally agree Gibbs the stand out player he played every midfield position and looked very comfortable. Very good with and without the ball. Think this could be the lad Bryan was talking about last season. This boy is a player.

Agreed Gibbs was unlucky with his efforts watched him end of season last year against spurs tried to play along the floor and naturally talented. On that day he played right across the midfield too. Hope we see him progress through the age groups into the first team one day
