McCarthy: No Sympathy With Fans Who Hounded Me Out
Friday, 26th Oct 2018 19:16

Former boss Mick McCarthy says the section of the Town support who were hounded him out have “got what they deserved” and he has “no sympathy” with them following the Blues’ disastrous start to the season which has led to his successor Paul Hurst departing only 14 games into the Championship season.

“It’s sad for Paul Hurst,” McCarthy told talkSPORT2. “They did make a lot of changes — a lot of players left and maybe a couple of the signings haven’t worked out instantly.

“I think they were unlucky in a couple of games and it can change around so quickly and all of a sudden you’re on the slide. I’m not one to be talking too much about it to be honest.”

Reflecting on his time at Portman Road and the way it ended he added: “I had my spell there, I loved it, enjoyed it and some of them made their feelings known and it’s not worked out for them since I’ve left, has it?

“I’ll make it clear, it wasn’t everybody. It was a fair section of them and I had a real happy time there because there are a lot of good people and I feel for them.

“But I have to say, the ones that were hounding me for 18 months to two years, I’ve got no sympathy for them at all. They’ve got what they deserved.”

Moving on to tomorrow’s game at Millwall which new manager Paul Lambert, whose appointment will be confirmed first thing tomorrow morning with a press conference pencilled in for Tuesday, will watch from the stands, McCarthy added: “It’s never easy going to the Den. So it’s going to be a tough old job for Paul if he gets the job. I like Paul Lambert.”

The incoming boss is understood to have agreed a three-year deal with Stuart Taylor set to be his assistant and Jim Henry Town's new fitness coach, the pair having left Stoke along with Lambert at the end of last season.

Can you blame him, let's be honest, he was pushed out by the fans and he would have wanted this to happen, anyone would.

But, even bottom of the league, he played unwatchable football and I'm still glad to see the back of him, hurst got it wrong, hopefully lambert can salvage it, think he may need some investment in January as the squad is weak, couldn't even tell you what team is play, we don't have any goal scorers

As ever his assessment of some ITFC "supporters" 100% correct.

If he wasnt bitter then why the comments?. Could have easily side stepped the question if he really wanted to. Did a grand job for a while, but the football he was producing, whilst getting average results was an absolute bore to watch and you go to football and pay for entertainment. MM = Zero entertainment. The Hust experiment has not worked unfortunately but thats football these days. Just gives the likes of MM the chance to pander to his "Oh how wonderful was I" mantra. I still say good riddance to him and always will stick by that. Moving on, lets hope the new manager can get the best out of what is a pretty poor side it has to be said. Miracles do happen however #COYB #ITFC

He's spot on. And it's not out of bitterness particularly. He hasn't rung up talksport and said i want to come on and have a go following Hursts sacking. He's asked questions on it having been previous manager and he's answered them accurately and fairly. If anyone had a bunch of fools (or anyone) hounding them out of their job for 2 years they wouldn't have any sympathy for them either. Not rocket science is it! Good man, good manager. Hia treatment from a section of morons was disgusting (putting aside any thoughts on his management).

Seriously some people can't get there head around the fact these comments come as part of an interview and are not just a man writing in to TWTD or something.

He was probably unfairly treated by a small minority in the end, but wasn't exactly blameless. He seems to forget that. It's time for him and us to move on.

No post from swn98 yet (only matter of time)...note McCarthy said a 'section' hounded him out (that of the vitriolic type) in reality far more people weren't happy with the Entertainment being served up every weekend and were getting tired of his style of management. I'm sure swn will point the finger at numerous people on here being in that section. What has happened since then has nothing to do with Mick being sacked but poor judgement from both Evans and Hurst and a terrible transfer strategy.

Anyway Mick, get yourself a job and move on.

And people like Swn98 love this bloke!!!!
What a total and utter waste of space. Oh... I forgot.... He doesn't have a job does he... Cos no one wants you do they. The only person that rates you apart from your mate Swn98 is yourself. Keep your pathetic bitter comments to yourself. What a total pillock

Me, me, me, me, me! Always the same with self obsessed Mick. He did a decent job on a tight budget but I think the whole of the footballing world have gone way over board in their praise of him and what he did (or didn't do) here. He never built anything here in 6 years in terms of a plan and developing youth players. He signed players to survive day by day with no future direction and left us in a pretty similar situation to what he took on in the first place.

Is it any coincidence that Sunderland, Wolves and now us are struggling now he's gone? That's not because he's marvellous but because of the mess he leaves behind.

All the fans from other clubs slate us but I guarantee they wouldn't want him running their club.

Looks very much as if a 'slant ' has been put into the actual questions, and reflected in the presentation of the answers .
Never one to flannel , always honest , professional and an excellent man manager who DID understand football -- let's not continue the bile relative to last season :MOVE ON ,cherish what was good , look for good and support with good intent ! ABOVE ALL the Club need solid support in the present plight STOP the nonsense , emphasise the positive ,eliminate the negative !
Come on you Blues !

We do have an embarrassing bunch of numpties amongst us like all clubs. MM's time was up and things wouldn't be a lot better.

To be fair, when you receive a ridiculous amount of abuse for overachieving in a role which was made hard by a tight owner, you'd eventually crack. Fair play, id show no sympathy either.
Unfortunately every football club has vocal morons.

We're going to find Mr Lambert has some marked similarities however. He is not a fan-friendly manager by any means.

Ffs, Why does this need a mention on the news pages.
He's gone, done moved on and so should we.
Please please let's replace this with a great story about The Beat and not Dino Mick.

For such a thick skin man from Yorkshire he does come across as a bit of a snowflake, hounded out f*****g hilarious his football was s**t & he was told so! There was no excuse for Skuse, Hyam & Douglas in midfield!! Too many decisions like that then there was that away game when the line was crossed & there was only ever going to be 1 outcome. Hope this is the last article on McCarthy on this site it's time to respect what he did & move on.
