Adeyemi Set for Surgery
Thursday, 18th Oct 2018 15:58

Midfielder Tom Adeyemi is facing further time on the sidelines with the achilles injury he suffered in pre-season now requiring surgery. Better news is that Emyr Huws, Teddy Bishop and Ellis Harrison are all making progress.

The 26-year-old made only four starts and one sub appearance last season after joining the Blues in the summer of 2017, illness having initially kept him out of action in pre-season before a recurrent hamstring injury ended his campaign in October.

Having recovered from that injury, he started pre-season only to suffer the problem which now needs to go under the knife.

“Tom’s having an operation on his achilles,” manager Paul Hurst revealed. “He went to see a specialist because there’s seemingly been no real improvement, despite the timeframe.

“He felt that was possibly the best course of action, which for his sake I hope it is because there’s no doubt having an operation on an achilles tendon is not something you want to really go through if possible.”

Hurst says it’s frustrating for Adeyemi but also everyone else at the club: “I’ll be honest, I’m not exactly sure what the timeframe is for it, but I think you’re talking a couple of months minimum. It will certainly be the other side of Christmas I would have thought, best case.

“It’s frustrating for everyone, he’s sort of a player that’s in the squad but in a lot of ways hasn’t been in the squad whether under myself or in the squad last season, so it’s not good for Tom at all.”

More positively, Emyr Huws and Teddy Bishop are both back out on the grass. Huws recently suffered a setback in his return from the knee injury which ended his 2017/18 prematurely, while Bishop picked up a minor hamstring problem in the U23s prior to the international break.

“Bish and Ems are back out with [physio] Chris Skitt on the training pitches doing bits of work I think with an idea of hopefully getting back involved next week at some point, although we’ve got games so how that will fit in we’ll see,” Hurst said.

Ellis Harrison, who suffered a ruptured a ligament in his ankle in the final week of September, is also making progress.

“I think six weeks from him doing it was the estimated time and we’re on course for that as I understand it,” Hurst said.

“He had his boot off yesterday, he’s had a walk round the training ground. I know that doesn’t sound that inspirational but it’s progress and speaking to him, he’s a bubbly character, he desperately wants to get back out there.”

"It's frustrating for everyone, he's sort of a player that's in the squad but in a lot of ways hasn't been in the squad whether under myself or in the squad last season, so it's not good for Tom at all.”

I like clarity.

Unfortunately for him and Huws I just cannot see either playing much football to be honest both have talent but there are reasons these guys were freebies or cast out by clubs. We've bought in far too many of these kinda players and whilst some of the blame needs to be at previous manager the owner doesnt give them much choice but to shop for these kind of players. Shame.

This guy is nothing but a joke. Another one of McCarthy's catastrophic sick note signings. He should be made to pay for the surgery out of his own pocket with the fortunes he's earned whilst providing absolutely nothing in return.

Tbh I've never seen Adeyemi play so not really too sure on what we're missing out on what with him being injured. Huws and Bishop are, when fit, so much better than Skuse and Nolan and whoever played in the middle last season. It's a real shame.

@BlueBlood 90, I think its a disgrace when you talk about one of our players like that, its not exactly like the man can help it if he gets injured? the man has been so so so unlucky with injury, when he has been on the pitch he has shown the quality he has, its not exactly like our STAR man Huws has had much more playing time? I personally say lets see what he can do after he comes back from this and then if he's fell way way way down the pecking order, then we mutual consent him so he can maybe drop a league and find his feet there instead.

Saw him play against Norwich I think in 2017 and that's been about it, poor signing in my opinion.

I, too, like clarity but PH talks in riddles and thinks likewise it appears !
What does he mean by saying JK' s dropping was ' a professional decision ' ?
It continues to be a total nightmare from a supporter's point when trying to interpret & understand what , if anything meaningful, goes on in PH's mind .Perhaps he needs coaching in clear thinking and articulation so that we actually believe he knows what he talks about ; it's very far from convincing !
Let's hope the players know what he's driving at and how any ' system, strategy & tactical plan ' should hang together ! He doesn't seem to be totally au fait or in charge of a lot !
Up the Blues !

Adeyemi and Huws have u fortunately turned out to be very poor signings. Waste of time and wages.

What a waste of space! I'm sure he's only here for the free healthcare.

Jesus, some on here act like Adeyemi wants to be injured. Poor lad is going to be a lot more gutted than we are about him not playing.

Some comments on here really are pathetic. He's a footballer and wants to play football. I very very much doubt that he chooses to be injured.

Also, if Town get a reputation for not standing by their injured players who on earth would want to come here. Unfortunately for players, getting injured is an occupational hazard.

shame as while i wasn't too sure about him when we signed him, i have to say in the first half against norwich when he played he looked very comfortable in midfield and we were well in top in that first half. he seemed to control the centre of the park. in the second half without him we didn't look as good and so it proved with norwich scoring 2nd half and winning.
but this injury saga seems almost without end and sadly that first half (which was many many moons ago now!) will probably only ever be a teaser of what might of been.

@NewEraNewMe

Don't be so precious. Plus I wouldn't exactly call him our player as he doesn't EVER play. I can't feel as emotional about him as you because I don't feel sorry for someone who earns thousands of £££ a week for doing absolutely nothing. I'd imagine you're more bothered about this than he is.
