St Johnstone Confirm Nydam Loan
Tuesday, 28th Aug 2018 15:34

St Johnstone have confirmed the signing of Blues midfielder Tristan Nydam on loan until January.

England U19 international Nydam has made 14 starts and six sub appearances for the Blues first team having come through the academy.

However, the 18-year-old Zimbabwe-born, Colchester-raised youngster has not featured for Town this season.

"I'm really pleased to get this deal done," Saints manager Tommy Wright told their club site. "It's been well documented that we were looking to add a midfielder so I'm delighted to have Tristan here.

"I know quite a lot about him and an old friend of mine from my Newcastle days - Paul Goddard - brought Tristan to my attention. We had him watched and believe he's a good fit for our squad.

"He may only be 18 years old but he has first-team experience and has played in the Ipswich vs Norwich derby, as well as against other big Championship clubs.

"He's predominantly left-footed and can fulfil a number of different roles in the middle of the park. He can play as a holding midfielder if required but can also be box-to-box. He's also very comfortable on the ball and is good in possession.

"He'll add energy and he's a tenacious player who works extremely hard. He ticks all of the boxes that you want in a midfielder."

He added: "He's highly rated by Ipswich and hopefully he can turn out to be a fantastic addition for us. I think the fact that he was keen to come here speaks volumes for the club and also Scottish football. We really didn't have to sell the move to Tristan.

"I think this is a very attractive league for young Premier League and Championship footballers in England to come and gain first-team experience."

Town boss Paul Hurst says the move will benefit Nydam's progress as a player.

“I’m aware that we have players here who might not get games and they need to keep developing," he told the Town official site.

“The best way to do that is to go out on loan. It's not me saying that is the end of their career at Ipswich Town - far from it. It’s about what is best for them as young players going forward. They can play games and then we will look at it again in January."

Great. We send one of our most talentable youngsters out to a pub league while we bring in some crocked winger who has played about 3 games in eight years.

At this rate, there will be Hurst out chants by August Bank Holiday.

Most definitely one for the future, quality young talent but with Bishop/Huws/Dozzell all returning it's a move that makes sense for now

How tall was the photographer who took the shot of Nydam holding his shirt? They got Hagrid on the payroll or something?

To be honest he's not really what's needed right now and it's a good opportunity for him to go play every week and develop. We have so many central midfield options with Skuse, Chalobah, Nolan, Ward, Downes, and Bishop/Huws/Dozzell/Adeyemi all returning. Can't see anything wrong with this.

I hope the shirt sponsor isn't an indication of where he is heading.

Shame I thought every time he's played for us he's handled the championship well and was different class in the west ham friendly. Would have like to have seen PH give him a chance to steak a claim.

When people like Skuse are playing as a box 2 box midfielder and this kid goes on loan then that's frustrating to see.

Good move for all parties! Constantly playing for a few months in a physical league is exactly what he needs rather than the occasional 10 minute sub appearances for us. We also have a lot of central midfield options; Skuse, Downes, Chalobah, Nolan, Huws, Bishop, Adeyemi (if he ever gets fit)

Sensible decision! Good luck Tristan!

A good loan move. Go smash it, Tristan!

Realistically, Nydam isn't quite ready for regular championship football, so I agree, let him go out and prove himself and reassess in January.

I trust PH.
