Hurst Expecting Edwards and Donacien to Be Fit to Face Villa
Thursday, 16th Aug 2018 14:52

Blues boss Paul Hurst expects Gwion Edwards and Janoi Donacien to be available for selection for Saturday’s home game against Aston Villa.

Winger Edwards missed the trip to Exeter with a quad problem, while right-back Donacien was subbed at half-time against the Grecians.

“He’s done a bit of the training today, hopefully there’s no reaction to that,” Hurst said regarding Edwards.

“If there isn’t and he gets through training tomorrow then he’ll be available for selection, which is obviously what we’d all like.”

As for Donacien, he added: “I think it was probably the right decision to take him off but he has trained today, he’s done the full session.

“Again, I’ll speak with [physios] Chris Skitt and Matt Byard regarding that and how we feel it’s settled. But again the signs are positive.

“Everyone else is OK other than the long-term like Tom Adeyemi [achilles], Luke Woolfenden’s out [knee]. Emyr Huws isn’t up for selection but has trained again today, he’s feeling quite positive, hopefully that can continue.

“And then Rowey and Bish were positives from the other night but wouldn’t be considered to start, but they’ve been out there again, so on that side we’re looking like we’re going in the right direction.”

Edwards' availability is a big positive.

Edwards should have traveled on the coach with the rest of them, not go it alone on a dodgy Yamaha !

Lets start rebuilding the foundation of this club with a good performance on Saturday. We can all help by doing this by getting behind the team and becoming the 12th man on the pitch. COYB

Glad - he has clearly shined for us so far. Hoping he can inspire and kick start things for us. Seems the type that can produce a bit of magic when required.

Now this isn't a Donacien is the worst player ever post - ( but clearly Hurst signing 9 lower league players not all 9 are going to tear it up unless he's the best manager of all time ) however - Is he better than Emmanuel for example?

Emmanuel played a lot of games for Rotherham, 4 years youngers, a level up from Donacien and apparently did very well for Rotherham.

Emmanuel if he's not going to get any game time here and be third choice definitely needs a loan - and if he could go to Rotherham for a season, a league higher up, that would be really good.

Cannot fully comment on Donacien however what are other peoples thoughts on RB? Clearly going to take the lad a while to adjust etc :)

Let's hope they are fit as we have few other options! Particularly on the wing!

On the RB debate:
Emmanuel will be going out on-loan, so it's really between Donacien (still unknown, he was a star at Accrington so most have something there) and Spence (who can get man of the match on his day but lacks consistency at RB). I prefer to see Spence in a CB position (been consistent there), so it's Donacien for me. Spence to replace if needed there. We haven't had much of a chance to see Emmanuel. Leaps and bounds behind Spence at one point, but who's to say if he's improved since then.

Edwards coming back in a huge positive. COYB! Get our first win against Villa and put some smile back on the supporters faces!!

@currie10 - apparently Emmanuel played really well for Rotherham and I believe was named their young player of the year, also set up goal in play off final with storming run and good cross, I would much rather have Emmanuel or Spence over Donacien any day, of all the signings this one baffles me most as it's an awful lot of money both for what we generally pay and also being a league 2 player. Thought he was pretty dire against Blackburn, horribly out of position for dack goal haven't seen other 2 games but from what I gather hasn't improved that much.
Fear for Saturday and living about 20 mile from Villa with a few mates who are supporters think it's going to be a pretty miserable weekend.
Too many lower league players signed, desperately need some quality in and the likes of Huws/Bishop/Dozzell back quickly and to stay fit, them 3 will be like 3 new signings IF they stay

Agree about Emanuel etc. We had a right back in Spence and decent cover in Emanuel so no idea why we bought Donacien from league 2. Of all the positions that one probably had the least need for a new signing.

Too early to call on Donacien, but early signs to me are that he hasn't improved over what we already had.

Just wondering about Emmanuel not playing. I think it could be that he's a type of Full/wing back that likes to get forward regularly. As PH favours genuine wide men/wingers, in that scenario an attack minded wing back isn't really needed. It might be that, rather than any perceived lack of ability PH has about JE. Of course it could be something else entirely!

Let's judge after ten games. After all we no longer have our best Championship players and have replaced them from the lower leagues - Genius or not? Let's wait and see.

I thought he was shaky against Blackburn but harsh to judge on one performance. Let's not forget Barry Cotter too. Had a storming debut and now nowhere to be seen!!

Yes, good point about Cotter. Makes the signing even more baffling to me.

Donacien is the only signing I really don't get. We had Spence, Emmanuel and Cotter all lined up at RB. Since Donacien has come in the only one of those three to get any game time is Spence. I'm reserving my judgement on Donacien until I've seen him a few more times but initially seems miles behind Spence, Emmanuel and Cotter but time will tell.

What an earth has happened to Cotter? Thought it would be mainly Spence and Cotter in that position this season? Baffling after such a great debut.

Important to get Edwards back, he is going to be vital for us this season!

@Currie10 - I think Emanuel should get a chance against Villa, Donacien has been ok but I would say going forward Emanuel is the best out of the 3 RB's we have. I have never rated Spence, against Blackburn he was useless. Donacien was playing CB, which explains why he struggled because that's not his natural position. Back 4 for Saturday should be Knudsen, Chambers, Nsiala and Emanuel.
