Jackson Arrives at Town as Blues Close in on Ninth Signing
Wednesday, 8th Aug 2018 13:57

Kayden Jackson has arrived at Town to undergo his medical and complete the formalities relating to his £1.6 million move from Accrington Stanley, TWTD understands. The switch is expected to be confirmed either later today or tomorrow morning.

News that Town and Accrington Stanley had finally agreed a deal for the striker broke earlier this morning.

The fee for Jackson, who scored 16 goals as Accrington won the League Two title last season having joined from Barnsley last summer, is an initial £1.6 million, potentially rising to around £2 million after top-ups, while there will also be a sell-on clause. The Tykes will receive 30 per cent of the profit Stanley make on the player they signed for a nominal fee.

Blues boss Paul Hurst has been tracking the 24-year-old, who previously played for him on loan at Grimsby, for a number of weeks.

TWTD reported that Town had offered £1.5 million early last week but with Accrington valuing Jackson at £2.5 million. Negotiations continued, however, and it appears an agreement was finally reached yesterday.

QPR and Peterborough were also in the hunt for Jackson, while Saturday’s opponents Rotherham and Preston were also both keen earlier in the summer.

Bradford-born Jackson started his professional career with Swindon following success in a 2013 Win a Pro Contract competition run by Samsung when a player with Albion Sports in the Northern Counties East League Division One.

While with the Robins, he had spells on loan at Swindon Supermarine and Oxford City, prior to stints with Tamworth, Wrexham and Barnsley before his loan with Grimsby and his permanent switch to his current club last summer.

Jackson will become Hurst’s ninth signing of the summer following confirmation of Toto Nsiala and Jon Nolan’s switches from Shrewsbury this morning and the previous additions of Trevoh Chalobah, Jordan Roberts, Ellis Harrison, Janoi Donacien, Gwion Edwards and Tayo Edun.

More excitement in this 1 transfer window than in Micks whole tenure as manager. Keep the up and coming superstars coming through the door Hurst and Evans.

Credit to Evans for spending the money from Webster, Waghorn and also Knight. Nice to see us sell players with a replacement already in place. As last time we sold Murphy with no replacement for a while.

Tilt and Windass now please, got such a good buzz for this season now. Coyb.

Going to need players who can pick a forward pass. Cue Edwards, Nolan, Edun, Dozzell. Goodbye Skuse, though still ideal to shore up a winning position with 10 to go !

League 1 All stars! Don't know what people are complaining about lower league players, a championship all star team would do ok in the prem

Well done ME and PH!

This is as exciting as I can think off since (the ill fated and disasterous) appointment of Keane.

Any news on Tilt and Windass?

Great news. Really looking forward to seeing an injection of pace and energy this season. It's felt a long time since we've seen these types of players play for us. I still hope we can get Tilt and Windass over the line. If we do then I would be very impressed with what we've got for our money. Hats off to Marcus for making things happen. COYB!

Jackson - Accrington Stanley (League 2 last season)
Nsiala - Shrewsbury (League 1)
Nolan - Shrewsbury (league 1)
Chaloboh - Chelsea (never played a league match)
Roberts - Crawley (League 2)
Harrison - Bristol Rovers (League 1)
Donacien - Accrington Stanley (League 2 last season)
Edwards - Peterborugh (League 1)
Edun - Fulham (2 apps in championship)

So we have signed 9 players all of which have 2 games of championship experience and have sold players who have championship experience. Are the alarm bells not ringing?? Do you really we will be able to bed these 9 players in (maybe more to follow) as the league has already started. How long will that take? How many of these players will be able to step up to the championship? Would be lucky if 3-4 can especially in a team with hardly any experience in this league. People talked about the sheffield united team doing so well in the championship last season... they had a team who had played together for a few seasons before getting promoted and started the season well full of confidence, however after christmas their season faultered and they missed out on the playoffs is that because of bad luck or the season finally caught up with them not having the experience.

I feel this will be a long season.

Great news - we should be an exciting watch this season, loads of pace up top and players willing to take on their opponents.

I get the impression the Tilt deal is dead as the Oystons are not playing ball, Boywer even bitched about them before quitting.

Would be amazing if we get Windass too.

Obviously this is based on Tilt and Windass getting over the line. But thoughts? I think it is a very impressive squad and much more depth about than in previous years.

ZZZZZZ Tommy do you just copy and past the same thing on every story. The one things most of those players have which a lot of our players don't is they are coming from teams that are used to winning that can't be bad.

If you are saying that you would prefer to watch seasoned players like Coke, Gleeson, Best etc plod around you must have been loving the last few seasons of "football".

And my question is Q1). Why didn't ME back MM? Disgraceful.Within a whisker of promotion and minimal backing.Could've been in the Premiership.
