Rangers Weighing-Up Town Windass Bid - Reports
Wednesday, 8th Aug 2018 08:49

Scottish reports claim Rangers are weighing-up a bid of £1.2 million from Town for forward Josh Windass.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Blues had made an offer of £2 million but according to various reports this morning an initial £1.2 million is on the table with the Gers trying to negotiate a substantial sell-on clause.

TWTD can confirm there something in the claims of Town interest in Windass, who coincidentally previously played for Accrington where another Blues target Kayden Jackson is currently a player and from where Janoi Donacien was signed last week.

It seems more likely Town would look to sign both Jackson, who is believed to be joining the Blues for an initial £1.5 million, and Windass given the lower fees now being quoted. Joe Garner's potential exit to Bolton would also add to the available funds.

Windass, who is 5ft 9in tall, is appears more of a direct replacement for Martyn Waghorn, who is set to join Derby this morning, than Jackson. He would presumably either play wide or as a number 10 for Town.

Born in Hull, Windass started his career in Huddersfield’s youth set-up before dropping into non-league with Harrogate Railway Athletic prior to moving on to Accrington and then Rangers in 2016.

The son of former Tiger Dean, Windass has scored 19 goals in 57 starts and 14 sub appearances at Ibrox and signed a new contract which runs to 2021 in February. All bar one of his Rangers goals came last season.

We are the money makers, stick a 10% clause and we'll sell him for £30 mill next summer ;)

If we can somehow sign Windass, Jackson, Shrewsbury pair and Tilt I might buy the new shirt (with that horrible sponsor!) as a thank you. Very exciting times ahead everyone.

So Windass is a direct replacement for Waghorn. And judging by the videos of Jackson he is more of a replacement for Sears?

Josh Windass would be a superb signing if we can get him

wow. are we talking ITFC here?! not used to all this transfer activity.

I wonder why MM was never supported with such funds?

And the good thing is that thanks to how ME does things we are still spending within our means.

Going to be hard work getting a good player on the cheap from rangers, they are going to look very closely at any offer ITFC make for a player after embarrassing them with Waghorn.

If we manage to get Shrews duo, Jackson, Tilt and Windass I may start actually believing ME does want promotion...what an unbelievable window it would be. Fully backing Hurst and very excited for this season of porgresssion ahead

Bart staying, Donacien, Chalobah, Edwards, Harrison, Roberts, Edun, Nolan, Nsiala, Jackson and Windass? What on earth is our penny pinching chairman doing? Surely something there for everyone to be happy about? COYB

Completely agree MoscowBlueMule, it still baffles me why Mick was never given these sort of funds, even after we sold other players for big fees (e.g. Mings).

Glad to see ME has finally changed his stance here though and is letting Hurst mould the team to his liking. I thought the Windass link was an alternative to Jackson, but the prospect of potentially signing both players is immensely exciting! It would definitely soften the blow of losing Waggy.

Always was stated that funds could've been available to was to MM, he even said so himself
It's was just a case of raising the funds, perhaps?
He was clearly contempt with his mediocre team?
Making him look great?
But how hurst is going about it all reall is making mick look like a mug

The manager wants the team to play a certain way, he knows how the formation should be set up & the type of players/skills needed for the constituent positions. He appears to have been allowed go and get the players he had identiifed.
I have confidence in his judgement, based on results elsewhere and how he speaks. I can see what he is trying to do & in a sense its a type of lower league version of the Jurgen Klopp high intensity pressing method, with the right type of player in place. Getting Tilt, as well as those who are reported to be signing this morning, would be a major help in achieveing his aims I feel.
It won't necessarily click straight away, but the signs are good that we are going to have a strong team, who will perform to a level beyond what would be expected from its individual components. Positive times ahead, well done to all, including the Chairman who has sanctioned spending in excess of £5m this summer.

The money for the buys has come from the sells hasn't it! No actual outlay above this, ME hasn't started splashing thecash. Still very happy with the additions, especially if we land Jackson Windass and Tilt. In PH we trust

I wonder what team he will choose to go against Exeter, it seems like we might stay longer in the Cup competitions this season ??? more money for the club !!!

Like I've said before......ME is like a guy who starts dating a beautiful girl (i.e. P.H.!) only to discover she is even more beautiful than he thought. Why he'll buy her any godamned thing now; he loves her!

Well said Len Brennan. On the point of ME's willingness to spend, as toxtethblue states there will be no net spend but credit to Evans for allowing Hurst to spend what he has sold. I suspect Evans is being very shrewd and knows that if, in these times of football hyper-inflation, Hurst gets one cracker from all these young signings he could recoup a huge part of what he has invested in the club. Windass for example could be worth £20m (or 200k) in 2 years time.

Guys like or loathe, most of these signings are possible because MM was so good in the transfer market. The reason the funds weren't available to him was he wasn't selling what he and many fans perceive to be his best players. It's freed up Hurst to do some very, very exciting things - which are also a risk, thus MM wouldn't have done it...

I'd really like this signing. We haven't had a direct attacking midfielder who gets goals for years. It's hard to judge talent in such a poor league as Scotland but I'd be very excited if he signed.

I would suggest that McCarthy was less happy to sell so many of our better players and emphasised paying higher wages for Championship experience (albeit often unrated - and therefore cheap to buy - at the time) and quality Prem loans. He was also strict about not spending if he didn't think there were players worth it (or they were overpriced).

Hurst, on the other hand, is building a team of League One/Two prospects, which has a higher starting price. He doesn't mind having to raise the funds before he can acquire. He has a list of lower-division men who he thinks can make the step up, thus widening the shopping arena.

It's a difference of philosophy more than a sudden loosening of the purse strings.

Take Webster as an example. McCarthy brought him in, then hung onto the defender in the hope he'd come good, despite injury woes. Hurst has got rid, thus raising money for replacements.

on the topic of spending, I think the way Mick managed the team and the type of players he looked to sign (mostly free transfers and premiership youngster on loan deals) had higher wage demands this would have eaten up transfer money.

MM seemed content on not spending and the was always his strategy was to stabilise the team and not spend to much, also mentioned in other comments MM was more keen to hold onto his tried and trusted rather than cash in and take a risk.

This genuinely is the most exciting transfer window in many years and if we can sign Windass and Tilt on top of what we have already signed The Paul Hurst era will be in full flow and i think its exciting times ahead. we may have a shaky start to the season but as the players gel i think we will have a strong second half COME ON YOU BLUES

We've pretty much brought in a starting 11! Which we needed to be honest. Best transfer window since we stole Stewart from Huddersfield and got promoted! Buzzing for this season, which tbh I haven't for a long time.
