Shrews Pair at Town to Complete Move
Monday, 6th Aug 2018 10:48

Shrews pair Toto Nsiala and Jon Nolan have arrived at Town to undergo their medicals and complete the formalities relating to their moves to the Blues, TWTD understands.

The clubs agreed a fee over the weekend - which we understand to be nearer £2 million than the £1.5 million reported yesterday - with the duo’s move to Portman Road expected to be completed later today or tomorrow morning.

A Blues move for Nsiala and Nolan had been widely anticipated since Hurst took over at Portman Road with both key players in his Shrewsbury team which reached the League One play-offs last season.

The pair, who are both 26, were initially recruited by Hurst during his time as Grimsby manager from elsewhere in non-league, having previously been with the Everton academy.

Following his spell at Everton, Huyton-born Nolan spent time with Stockport County, Lincoln City and Wrexham (loan) before joining Hurst's Grimsby in January 2016 prior to moving on to Chesterfield that summer. A year later Hurst took him to Shrewsbury.

Nsiala, a DR Congo international born in Kinshasa, spent time on loan at Macclesfield and Accrington while with Everton before a spell with TDCS Dong Thap in Vietnam.

After returning to the UK, Nsiala, who was brought up in Liverpool from the age of 10 after a period living in Paris, joined Southport before playing for Hurst at Grimsby between 2014 and 2016. After half a season at Hartlepool he was reunited with his old boss at Shrewsbury last summer.

Elsewhere, Martyn Waghorn is expected at Derby to undergo his medical this morning ahead of his £5 million plus add-ons, which we understand could eventually see the fee climb to £7.5 million, switch to the Rams.

We tried signing experienced (circa early 30s) and/or proven (recycled from other Tier 2 clubs) Championship players and got nowhere for the past (many) years...so might as well we try something different by signing really really good League 1 or 2 players and try to play exciting brand of football...

...who knows, might just work...

For me vast experience says old players with no pace and backward thinking. Skuse ans Sears were for me the worst on Saturday whereas Edwards was the best.
I don't think we'll ever see Adeyemi again and there must be a doubt about Huws and Bish too so I see these signings as essential with more to come.

Nolan looks like the best box-to-box midfielder we've had since Matt Holland.

Dont forget Matt Holland. Getting the best from L1 is no issue for me, but exiting:)

Who was the captain of our 1991-92 Championship winning team and where did we sign him from?

signing lower league players is risky but if we beat Norwich in a couple of weeks it could snowball

Shrewsbury and Ipswich were both D2 clubs when David Linighan signed.

What on earth is up with Huws and TA? Feel like they've been out nearly as long as Dozzell and he's back!!

If Waggy goes and these two come in then I feel we just need Tilt i and an EXPERIENCED proven striker and we are there-----that is on the assumption that some of our sick notes will eventually return at some time!!

All this 'get behind the team or support someone else' comes too late. Should have done that last season when we had a team of Championship players.

Time will tell

I see Gary Bowyer has become the first managerial casualty of the new season. I wonder how this effects our pursuit of Tilt?

Good news, really gives us some extra depth and hopefully these guys can link up well with the rest of the signings that have come in. My only reservation is that if Waghorn and Garner are to leave, we are a tad short of quality up top. 2 more signings at least please, Tilt and a forward. #ANewEra

Cheshire.. give it a rest man... MM has gone good riddance. I know you want this to go wrong, so you can say i told you so and be careful what you wish for!

Very excited by the signing of Nolan!

Well, Mick was not short of enthusiasm on Sky Sports News on Saturday. He was covering the game and was very good when Town produced a good move. Particularly enjoyed Edwards' performance, as we all did.

We may not have played well under Mick but I suspect he's a generous man and it showed on Sky.
Re Bowyer. Maybe criticising Oyston (saying "We know where that came from") may have had something to do with his dismissal. May be a negative for signing Tilt.

MW seems to want to move whether for more money or to be closer to home (or both) and PH knows the only way he can bring in the players is to sell.

Nolan looks a good signing but still concerned that we are selling a proven striker on the cheap. I worry PH will not get all of the proceeds from this and other sales - I am sure somebody will do the sums after the transfer deadline expires! I just worry if the squad will be stronger overall is we also lose Garner.
