Town Confirm Edun Loan Signing in Time for Blackburn
Friday, 3rd Aug 2018 15:08

Town have confirmed the season-long loan signing of Tayo Edun from Fulham with the 20-year-old midfielder’s registration going through in time for him to be in the squad for tomorrow’s opening game of the season against Blackburn at Portman Road.

Clubs have to register players prior to midday on the day before a match if they are to be involved.

“Paul’s someone that I’ve been looking to work with for a while now so I’m really happy to get the move done,” Edun told iFollow Ipswich.

“I saw some of the work he did at Shrewsbury with young players - he launched their careers to some degree so I’m hoping for something similar here.

“First impressions with Paul and the coaching staff have been really good. They seem very positive and I think I will learn a lot from them.

“I’m ready to go for the Blackburn match if I’m needed. If not then I’ll be looking forward to the next one.”

The Islington-born youngster, who is contracted to Fulham until the summer of 2020, has had limited first team experience with the Cottagers, playing twice in the Caribao Cup last season and later clocking up two Championship appearances as Fulham headed towards promotion back to the Premier League.

Edun, who is left-footed and can play in central midfield, left-back or in a wide midfield role, made his senior debut for Fulham almost two years ago in an EFL Cup win at Leyton Orient and also featured in his side’s subsequent ties in the same competition against Middlesbrough and Bristol City.

He has represented England from U17 through to U20 levels and was in the U19 squad, alongside both Andre Dozzell and new loanee Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea, that triumphed in the European U19 Championship 12 months ago in Georgia, where he was named in the team of the tournament despite being sent off in the 2-1 final win over Portugal after collecting two yellow cards.

Edun was on trial with MLS outfit Portland Timbers earlier in the summer and had also been reported to be interesting League One clubs Barnsley and Shrewsbury in addition to Town.

Is there an option to buy included?

Has Hurst confirmed where he's expected to play? If centre midfield, I'd much rather see Downes/Dozzell/Nydam play ahead of him. If Left Back or out wide, good to add some depth.

Him, Dozzell, Chalobah together will create some good moral in the camp. Those and the other youngsters give us a good base for some excitement.
Just need one or two more experienced players, and I think we'd have a squad that offers enough to compete.
Excited to see which team Hurst puts out tomorrow. Although not the best squad on paper, I have a kick of excitement in me, which I've missed. Roll on tomorrow

Another excellent signing all be it a loan. Already has played with Dozzell and co at international level so should fit in nicely #IPHWT

Left back - covered, wide left - covered, centre mid - certainly don't want him picked above dozzell, downes or nydam = we don't really need him.
Would love a couple of quality centre backs though.

If we play anything like we did against West Ham, we are going to be one of the surprise packages this season! Especially when you consider the team have only had 4 weeks under Hurst. Entertainment is definitely back down Portman Road this year. Very exciting

Not exactly the player we have been crying out for, but probably signed as a full back more than a midfielder, which might suggest that we could be losing somebody shortly.
To be fair to the lad, & in response to those highlighting his lack of game time last season; he was with a side promoted to the Premier League, who have a very decent left sided full back/winger on their books as it is.
Good luck Tayo.

This could be a loan where we could sign him next summer depending on how he does: i don't mind 2/3 loans as long as they're decent players who can make a impact: his versatility could be a benefit: can't honestly remember a window with so much possible signings, players wanting too come here such a refreshing change: Well done too Evans for finally backing a manager with decent signings! you get the feeling Hurst is getting what he wants & not settling for anybody: #NewEra next week is going to be busy in & out

Timkatie .......and you're an experienced manager are you?
You don't think for one second that Dozzell, Downes and Nydam are strong enough to play all season through do you?

We have a the best GK in the division.

The experience and blood and guts of Chambo and youth of the Wolf in central defence

The future of Engalnds midfield, 2 quick wingers one of whom should scare the crap out of defenders.

A young hungry striker with an all round game..

Experience of Skuse, Sears and some other wiser heads

Versatile ward.

Huws to come back

More exciting youth breaking through (Cotter Et Al)

More additions (hopefully to come)

C'mon Town

Welcome aboard. I still hope we can add another winger or two in case Edwards gets injured and Sears just isn't good enough to be playing there.

@BlueandTruesince82

I think we should sing to the tune of Stay another day by E17:

Stay now!
Waggy if you've got to go away
Don't think we could take the pain
Won't you stay another day
Oh don't leave us alone like this
Don't you see you're the final piece
Won't you stay another day!

Glad to see Mr Hurst in charge after the debacle of the last few years but just would like it explained why he is going down the McCarthy route of signing young players on loan in positions that are not particularly short of.
Are our own young players not good enough or are we signing just to make the numbers up .
The 2 players loaned from Chelsea and Fulham will never be Town players whereas players like Downes,Nydam and Dozzell are ours could someone please explain how this works for the good of ITFC

Honestly it's so boring hearing half the people on here moaning about signings! Cover is good to have, he may be better than Downes or Nydam? There may even be a future fee involved...Who knows! Just be positive and you don't know what could happen. Look at Huddersfield. After 5-6 years of Mick, I expect even the most pessimistic town fan to be upbeat right now. WE'RE SPENDING MONEY!!

Great addition, welcome lad, seems a nice well balanced young man. Maybe more to come, super excited for this season with a young and hungry squad and an ambitious manager with lots to prove.
Bring it on!!

Obj, agreed that's why it's top of the list.

But dont leave me this way is an utter tune....

Ahhhhhhh, Waggy, my heart is full of love and desire for you so come on down and do what you've got to do... you've started a fire down in my soul get on the pitch and give us a goal come on down and satisfy the need in me only your footwork can set me free, set me free, set me free.

As I said yesterday, I don't see very much point of this. We have our own promising youngsters who should start above him.

That said, I wish him well.

How much is that Waggy in the window?
I do hothethat he's not for sale
We don't want a Rhodes or a Wolfwinkle
They play for teams who can't score
If we must sell that Waggy in the window
Then we want 10 million or more.

Or get passive aggressive,

You playing in the reserves for a Scottish club when we signed you, we picked you out, shook you around, turned you into something new.

Now 1 year later on you have the world at your feet, success has been So easy for you but don't forget its us who put you where you are now and we can put you back there too

Don't, don't you want me, you know I can't believe it when you won't play for me!

Don't you want me Waggy, don't you want me ooooohhhhh
