Town Closing in on Fulham Youngster
Thursday, 2nd Aug 2018 19:30

Town are closing in on the loan signing of Fulham midfielder Tayo Edun.

According to HITC Sport, the 20-year-old is undergoing a medical ahead of a move to the Blues.

We understand that while that's premature, the loan should be completed tomorrow in time for the season opener against Blackburn at Portman Road on Saturday.

Edun, who was previously linked with Town early this month, was on trial with MLS outfit Portland Timbers earlier in the summer and had also been reported to be interesting League One clubs Barnsley and Shrewsbury in addition to Town.

The Islington-born youngster, who is contracted to Fulham until the summer of 2020, has had limited first team experience with the Cottagers, playing twice in the Caribao Cup last season and later clocking up two Championship appearances as Fulham headed towards promotion back to the Premier League.

He has represented England from U17 through to U20 levels and was in the U19 squad, alongside both Andre Dozzell and new loanee Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea, that triumphed in the European U19 Championship 12 months ago in Georgia, where he was named in the team of the tournament despite being sent off in the 2-1 final win over Portugal after collecting two yellow cards.

Edun, who is left-footed and can play in central midfield, left-back or in a wide midfield role, made his senior debut for Fulham almost two years in an EFL Cup win at Leyton Orient and also featured in his side’s subsequent ties in the same competition against Middlesbrough and Bristol City.

Sounds a good signing, but surprised he failed a trial at an MLS team, unless he didn't fancy it in the end.

Hope this isn't as a result of us failing to sign permanent additions.

However, sounds like a good player. But will he hinder our own youngsters development?

With him surplus to requirements at Fulham, this could be a loan Looking to sign permanently next summer! Hearing Hurst today it wouldn't surprise me if Knudsen leaves before Thursday next week along with Waghorn & Garner giving Hurst more funds to get his own players in: without doubt next week is going to be very interesting: I'll still say it I wilnt judge are window till it shuts: so far it's been excellent:

I'm sorry but I just can't get excited about this. This signing is due to not being able to get the permanent signings done. Yet again Evans has shown how inept he is in getting deals over the line he's a complete joke. Yes we have some players in but we needed a couple of centre backs in the most and here we are 1 day to go before the first game and we only have Chambo. I'm sorry but hurst, just like mick, would have given Evans a list of players well in advance and he just cannot get them done. Absolute joke

Why? Pointless signing.

@stokehigh. I wouldn't call selling a great defender in Webster( we were all pleased when we managed to get him) and probably one of the best players in championship last year, a player who has just come back from World Cup and a proven championship striker who did quite well for us last season and replacing them with players who have not played one game between them at this level. Personally I'd rather have kept them and built a young team round them. It's all well and good signing all these youngsters but it's a MASSIVE risk too if they don't work out. Not being negative it's just a simple fact

Not really sure about this one. Don't we have enough youngsters in midfield?

TimKatie: did you not listen or read Hurst press conference: if he didn't sell anyone he would've only been able to bring in loans, Yes Webster is a good defender but he wanted to leave & we got good money for a player who was always injured, so it's aloud Hurst too strengthen the team with permanent signings like as has 2.2m once Waghorn has gone that money will be used to bring in Toto Nolan Kayden maybe more: as for Experience Webster & Knudsen never player at this level either prior 2 joining: The Danish league is weak & Webster not even played at championship level:

Negative spin: No more signings. All deals off, Waghorn stays. Edun goes in Cm. Chalobah plays centre back.
Positive spin: cover for cm. Waghorn deal starts the domino effect. Only way to do shrews players deal is to give them one of ours on loan.

I love the sound of the positive spin

Hurst obviously is not impressed with either Kenlock or Knuidsen hence this lad coming in who can play left back.

Interesting 7 days ahead me thinks!

Rumours circulating online that the Nolan and nsiala deal is done as Shrewsbury just signed Anthony grant from Peterborough....

Hurst has said from the start he wants more wingers, and this is the case here - nothing to do with Knudsen or Kenlock

That means less chances for our youngsters, maybe Dozzell is going to be sold

I'm really glad we are signing these young midfielders on loan because we certainly dont have any of our own we could play instead.

McGoldrick didn't want a contract with us. His family is based in the Midlands and he wanted to play closer to them.

People do realise he may just be coming in as cover at left back or left wing? He played 2 games in this division last season. He's not going to replace Dozzell or Nydam for 46 games. Get a grip. He's a cheap, talented player likely to be a squad player and if he put performs one of our own then that improves us surely? That's a good thing.
