Hurst: Midfield Role for Chalobah
Saturday, 28th Jul 2018 06:00

Town boss Paul Hurst says he plans to play loanee Trevoh Chalobah in central midfield rather than at the centre of the defence from where he has skippered the England U19s at the European Championships in Finland.

Chalobah and striker Ben Morris were due back from the Euros yesterday and Hurst says the on-loan Chelsea man is unlikely to be start against West Ham today, although he is considering giving him a run-out from the bench.

“That’s a big ask, Trevoh will have played four games as well as the travelling and everything,” he said.

“I don’t want to put him at risk. It would be nice if we can get him out there for part of the game at least.

“He’s almost like a new signing for us, which I know he is anyway. Despite the fact we know he’s here, all I can see is his initials and him not being available for training.

“It will be great to have him back. It didn’t go as well as I’m sure he and the rest of the squad wanted.

“Ben Morris is a young player and it will be nice to see if we can get him in and around the place and get him maybe involved in an U23s game, something like that, because I know that he’s one that has clearly got some potential and was looking sharp towards the end of last season.

“He showed little glimpses in the couple of days that I saw him while I’ve been at the football club.”

Asked where he will play 19-year-old Chalobah, in midfield or at the heart of the defence where he has been in action for England, Hurst responded: “And they conceded five goals [against France]! And I think the first goal he will be a little bit disappointed with.

“I’ve said from the start that I’m not saying he might not ever play there, but I’ve brought him as a midfield player really.

"I think with the attributes that he’s got, and maybe age comes into it slightly as well, that would be a better position for him at this moment in time.”

We have how many central mids? Leaves us with just 2 centre backs, we can't surely be thinking of starting a season with 2 central defenders , Mr Evans?

Anyone know the latest with Cameron Carter-Vickers are Spurs prepared to send him out on loan again ?

Although I don't know much about TC, I entirely agree with PH. I'd certainly be happier with him as a central mid. rather than in the back line, where any mistakes might well be crucial. I think his youth and energy would best be used to drive us forward and help create opportunities in attack, as well as playing a defensive role in front of a back four.

'Mr Evans.' Give me strength, nothing winds me up more. How can you be so polite, courteous and respectful to a man who has been the main cause of a decades stagnation?! How long will it takes some of you to wake up?!

What's happening about Curtis Tilt at Blackpool? Rangers appear to be keen on him - he looks a really good. Strong powerful c/d, makes excellent forward runs with the ball and has good feet and is a keftie. Can get past opponents under pressure with surprisingly good footwork and tricks gor such a big guy. For a couple of hundred thousand on top of our recent bid we could have a real fans favourite at PR. Come on M, get it done.

With Chris Smith allowed to go on loan & confirmation here of where a lot of us thought Chalobah would be played, I am convinced that at least 1 new centre half has been secured. Paul Hurst does not strike me as someone who would be careless & leave signing a new CB to chance before allowing one of his option leave on loan.
I had been wondering about Carter Vickers too; what a result it would be to bring him back along with the full signing of Tilt - ok, I'm getting carried away now.

Two permanent centre halves MUST be signed this week. Failure is not an option.

Hopefully going to challenge skuse for the CDM role as he's not good enough. No pace not strong. Only gets as many interceptions from being out of position so much. We never control possession when he's in the team even again non league part timers. All fans are sharing the same qualities as MM and having favourites and think he's premier class and I even see someone say he's first name on the sheet desperate times if true.

Some people need to be prepared for transional period the new era will bring we as supporters need to get behind hurst players & a bit of credit to ME wouldn't go a miss!

PH clearly has a plan. Let him work it. If it takes a little longer to get the CB or any other player he wants in then so be it. He wants to play a certain way so no point getting just anyone in to placate fans. Be prepared for Jonas to start at CB if necessary. As long as I can see a plan, forward progress then in PH I absolutely do trust.

Yeah, happy to be in the championship (or worse) forever more, toddling along, not progressing, going no where... Another 10 years? Yeah sure, why not, no bother. Seriously, what is wrong with you lot?! No passion, no balls, apathetically pacified into oblivion...

The idea of skuse, chalobah and Dozzell possibly in midfield together makes me very happy

Toxicblue, sorry toxtethblue, I think most people are getting bored with your moronic moaning!

I am not bored with his moaning.

PH is doing the right thing and playing him in midfield as he was not convincing in euros in defence. Toxteth and Jas are right to hold ME to account for the same old rubbish every year. Bids never high enough. Bargain basement players. Loans etc.

The season starts in 1 week and it will be unforgiveable if we start with a squad lacking in numbers. It will also be unforgiveable if we get zero or 1 point from the first 2 games.

Just get the players in - its not difficult especially with 4 million sitting there.

This pm will be interesting.

I understand PH's thinking here although not why we signed him if he's only going to be a central midfielder. We have plenty of young central midfielders already

Bring back Manuel Thetis - or cyborg twins cloned from Kevin Beattie with a sprinkle of Mick Mills, Tony Mowbray for the offsides and Mark Venus for the dead ball deliveries, and Gus Uhlenbeek for raw speed. Any scientists out there?

Blue56 apology accepted. Guess what though, I'm beyond not bothered what you think. I hope I'm wrong, trust me but I think history will prove me right. Even if it does some of you won't see the blindingly obvious cause of our plight. Ridiculous ignorance.

At the end of the day Marcus Evans is a business man, probably grown in to being a Town supporter. He is trying to run ITFC as a viable business unlike most owners, I am pretty sure we are in better shape than when he took over. I am not particularly a fan of ME, but think he has the right intentions..

He supports Chelsea not Town I believe. Staggering you can think that, considering. In time I think this period will go down as a very dark one in our history and a time will come when you (and other ME apologists) will be (or should be) ashamed of the apathetic ambivalence you have shown.

So much negative cxp on here, I'm an optomist & I'm certainly happy with Hurst so far, the signings although from lower leagues seem good, not the journeymen MM seemed to favour. Harrison I think will become quite a star, he's seems to have it all, especially good in the air. It's good to hear Hurst's interviews which are so refreshing after 5 years of hearing MM talking in riddles about Flopsey, Mopsey etc etc. Thank God Idon't have to hear that drone any more
