Derby in "Advanced Talks" for Waghorn
Tuesday, 24th Jul 2018 21:55

Derby County are reportedly in “advanced talks” regarding Blues striker Martyn Waghorn, who was an unused sub in this evening’s 1-0 friendly victory away against the MK Dons. TWTD revealed that the Rams were interested in signing the 28-year-old a fortnight ago.

According to the Daily Mail, Derby are willing to pay the Blues a fee totalling £8 million for Waghorn with the player said to be keen on making the move.

Reports elsewhere claim last August's £200,000 signing from Rangers has submitted a transfer request in order to make the move.

Frank Lampard's Rams have been among a number of Championship clubs eyeing last season's 16-goal top scorer throughout the summer.

Middlesbrough are also very keen, while Birmingham City have also been monitoring the situation and Nottingham Forest have been linked.

Sheffield United made an offer of approaching £5 million three weeks ago which was quickly rejected by the Blues but Derby appear to be prepared to meet owner Marcus Evans's asking price.

Meanwhile, the Blues are among a number of clubs linked with Exeter forward Jayden Stockley.

Preston are also said to be interested in the 24-year-old, who came through the AFC Bournemouth system before joining the Grecians last summer following a number of spells out on loan.

Stockley, who has a year left on his contract, scored 25 times in all competitions last season. Sunderland also said to have been keen but with their interest having cooled.

This should will be our “Dyer moment”, if the story is true then we need to spend big on a new striker, at least 1 centre half and a creative midfielder and soon!

admire their ambition. Shame we don't float that way. If he goes he goes with with a good season for us and good luck

Will Hurst get 8m to spend on players? History says no. Still some of you won't see fault in ME though ffs

Gutted. If true we HAVE to use this money to go out and buy some real talent and quality in a few areas of the squad. Maddison and Marriott from Posh would do for me.

How the feck can derby keep getting away with spending what they spend? Seriously regretting buying a season ticket at the moment and can't get excited about a possible player from Exeter joining us.

Get the best deal we can. It's obvious now that the player wants to go so best for all parties if Waggy moves on. This is one massive rebuilding job which is going to take time, maybe more downs before the ups. Disappointed yes, maybe we can get Nugent as part of the deal.

8m and throw in Tom Lawrence would be a better deal

Shame about that but can we turn down £8m which seems a fair price. Still short of players so need to spend it and fast!

Personally feel that 8 mil for Waghorn is good business, maybe then bring in a new cb, a creative cm...someone like Jon Nolan and obv another striker.
Its far from the end of the world like some are saying....it could be a real positive transfer for itfc, as long as funds are reinvested, which i think they will.

£8m is good money, we can't turn that down. As long as we use at least some of the money to get in a few more players then that is OK in my book. Tilt and the young full-back from Scunthorpe for starters, and then hopefully more.

Seems strange that Derby would even need Waghorn given that they've already been heavily linked with Marriott already brought in Wilson and Mount on loan, and the other good attacking options they already have.

Feckin Derby. They sold us us Graham Harbey !!! ( journeyman full back) now If they get Waggers they'll have got our two best players of recent seasons - him and Tom Lawrence.

If he's keen on the move, then fcuk him. Clearly all the talk of him loving his time here and his family being settled is odd. Must be a hell of a pay rise to go to Derby, a team of perineal bottlers season after season.

Any money received MUST be invested into the playing squad. We desperately need additions, particularly in defence. Whilst the centre of midfield needs some creativity.

I was always sure it would be derby or Boro and not Sheffield, derby burn money, they will get a very good player I hope he just dosent warm the bench, I'm sad to see him m go but if it is £8 million absolute no brainer, thanks for the entertainment last season

A deal totalling £8m? So prob about £5m up front and the rest depending on appearances. We've got absolutely no hope this season. At least out 17 year stay in The Championship will come to an end.

Why down me for not getting excited about a possible league two player joining us while we may be selling our best outfield player? Those that down voted.me must have the same ambition as out esteemed leader.

Don't get me wrong i'd rather Waghorn stay at Town but if we get 8 mil it's a hard offer to turn down. Obviously his head will have been turned & Derby will be significantly able to up his wages so you can't blame the bloke for wanting to leave if true. I just hope that Paul Hurst can use the money to strengthen the team! My lad was at the MK game & he's messaged me to say that the new signings played really well & Ellis Harrison really looks the real deal, know it was only the MK Dons but first impressions were really good! Saw a report saying it could be 3m plus two players... would breakdown in tears if one of them was Chris Martin

Do you seriously think it will be when that has never properly happened before? What on earth gives you such blind faith in ME to do that now?

To be fair, he had that good season with us after a few years in the wilderness. Will be a good deal if we get £8 million. He will probably treble his wages as well. Good luck to him.

I certainly do @totethblue. If this happens it is total bolox.
3.5m from Webster, 1m from Man City, 400k from World Cup and 2m from sponsorship. That's nearly 7m plus fee rising from Webster. By all accounts we have spent 1.5m on players, ME reckons he pumps 6m per season in so simple math means he could keep all afore mentioned money and trouser it and give all Waghorn fee to PH to strengthen. Reality is we have already signed his replacement in an unproven at this level player. Cue the down arrows but coupled with all the players released and high earners like mcg going too there's absolutely no reason why hurst shouldn't get that money, I can't see him getting a quarter of it if it's 8m as reported, ME will simply bank it. ME OUT
