McGoldrick Joins Blades
Tuesday, 24th Jul 2018 17:12

Sheffield United have confirmed the signing of released Blues striker David McGoldrick following a trial.

The Republic of Ireland international, who left Town in May having not been offered new terms by the Blues, has signed an initial one-year deal at Bramall Lane but with a view to an extension.

Blades boss Chris Wilder says the chance to sign the 30-year-old was too good to pass up.

"I've continually said that we only want to bring in players who strengthen us and David ticks that box,” he told his club’s official site.

“He’s a great link player, has a wealth of Championship experience and he may be coming into the best years of his career.

"David wanted to return north [his family home is in Nottingham] and this was too good an opportunity to turn down. His attitude and ability, not only in the matches he has played but also on the training ground, is without question.

“I've spoken to a number of respected people about David and they cannot speak highly enough of him.”

Wilder is also keen to sign Blues striker Martyn Waghorn, however, as reported yesterday, the Blades’ only bid for the 28-year-old - understood to be a figure approaching £5 million - was turned down by Town three weeks ago with no new offer having been made since then.

What about the other sick notes we have (too many) who presumably have drawn full wages for doing nothing for far too long.

I guess Mr Hurst is none too happy with inheriting this diabolical situation.

Read somewhere that Sheff U were asking Derby about Nugent so perhaps they,ve given up on signing Waggy. Hope so.

I don't think anyone who knows a little about football would argue he was an absolutely superb McCarthy signing. Free transfer? No Branier!!

Top scorer and in our best play-off year (the first for 11 years) it was no coincidence with us 2nd in the league in Jan when MacG got injured, Murphys goals dried up a little and we limped into the Play-offs after that.

Shame we had to endure the will he won't he stay? every pre-season due to his family moving back up North.

I really enjoyed watching him in a Town shirt, Norwich always feared him (although unfortunately for us he was nearly always coming back from injury when he faced them), he is goal provider and scorer

On his day a top number 10 and I wish him all the best. The two disappointments was his injury record and him not saying goodbye to us fans! He will be missed.

I had a Subbuteo player like Didz once. His leg was held to the base with pritt stick and a hard 'shot' would snap it like a dry twig.

Good luck to the Sheffield United treatment table. And the physio's jar of embrocation. Reckon they'll see more of Didzy than the Blades fans this season.
