Town Expected to Be Bristol Rovers Striker Harrison's Championship Destination
Sunday, 22nd Jul 2018 13:37

Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke has confirmed that striker Ellis Harrison is leaving the League One club for a Championship side.

The Bristol Post expects that club to be Town ahead of Blackburn, who had previously been mentioned in connection with the 24-year-old. Reports elsewhere claim Harrison will move on for a fee in excess of £1 million.

Harrison, who was first linked with the Blues on Friday, was left out of the Pirates’ friendly against Forest Green Rovers yesterday with Clarke subsequently refusing to comment on why.

Former Wales U21 international Harrison came through the youth system at the Memorial Stadium and has played all his senior games for the Pirates aside from a short spell on loan at Hartlepool early in 2016.

Last season the Newport-born forward scored 14 goals. In total for Bristol Rovers he has made 116 starts and 88 sub appearances, netting 49 times.

Makes me actually curl up with laughter with some of the s##t people put on here.
When the dinosaur was signing journeyman like reo-coker, paul green etc the list is endless on loans you all moaned sign from the lower leagues..We do that & guess what ?? Still moaning we aren't spending 10 million on a player from the premiership.
Bet not one of the moaned attends more than 1 game a season & expects even then to get in for a pound.
GOD HELP US !

Reminds me of the David Johnson signing in 1997, fingers crossed he will sign for us & be equally as successful. Lets hope he plays just in front of Waghorn.

God there are some real Idiots ON HERE , and that's putting it mildly. Never played at any decent level of football but seem to be experts lol, Give Paul Hurst the backing he needs !! He's come in and seen things were not right , ie three sick note midfielders , one of whom seems to be on the treatment table more than he's on instagram , every body was calling for the young players to be given a chance, no more average loan players and no more dull football , things are changing and pretty quickly by what I'm seeing , for a club like ipswich if we have to sell a player for good money to move forward so do it , all clubs have to do it , Marcus Stewart , David Johnson , bought from lower league clubs , and let's not forget Sir Bobbys first signing , Alan Hunter how many class centre half's that played with him developed into great players , o Liverpool didn't t do to bad buying a player from Scunthorpe, KEVIN KEEGAN !!!!

we have a new manager, with new idea's , we wanted change we have it, sure some aspects of what is happening worry me but its where we are and its a case ''suck it and see'' now, Hurst must now be given his chance and will be judged on results. This striker hopefully is an addition and NOT someone coming in as Waghorn leaves. It may well be this whole thing goes t##ts up, the Championship is a tough league, any shortcomings in the players coming up will soon be exposed as will will Hursts management if he isn't up to it. We have to back them and hope it works out. COYB .

The moaning about "lower league risks" makes me laugh.

Firstly, it's a policy that's worked so well for us throughout our history. Cresswell, Mings and Walters are just a few recent examples.

Secondly; it may have escaped many fans' notice that the club has no money (or an owner unwilling to spend large sums). This is exactly why Hurst was brought in to the club; to sign some lower league gems on a budget. Not every signing will work out but let's give them a chance, eh?

We're not in the market for proven championship players that can cost £5-10m. Reality check required.

You know all you guys who are going on about in-experienced, low league players that never set their previous team alight.... well does one of the most obvious reasons not occur to you that is these players cannot perform to the top of their game with the ability of players around them. Put them in a better team the will perform better....

I have watched Rovers many times and went to Wembley and when they won the playoffs so seen him play many times. Ellis Harrison is a very good exciting young player, I really hope we get him and of course keep Waghorn!

Looks to be a good signing if he comes, he is a bit like a young Darren Bent, good pace and confidence too.
I do wish some of you on here would just cheer up a bit you are so blooming negative about what's currently happening!!!!!

I don't understand some people.....they must be deluded. Who do you think we should be signing? Harry Kane? Lionel Messi? Christ, we are a million miles off signing even an average Premier league/championship donkey like Mitrovic. We have to buy from the lower leagues......and what better person to do it than someone that knows them inside out. Give the Bristol Rovers bloke a chance. Personally i like the fact we often unearth a gem from the lower leagues. Tyrone Mills was bought from Chippenham Town for 50k (which is just down the road from Bristol). We are 3rd favourites to get relegated and pay very average championship wages compared to others so a promising youngster from the leauges below is the kind of player we have to sign and gamble on.

For god's sake! Let PH get in who he wants to get in then make your judgement after a dozen games! I saw the highlights of Harrison's goals & from that I say (hopefully) welcome son, carry on like that & I'll be chuffed to buts!
The future is bright, the future is blue!

Well said "Tonymowbray" and Harry Kane was rubbish when on loan at lower league Norwich!

PH is picking the players to suit the way he wants to play. They guy looks like he can head, has a shot on him and has pace to burn... of course in a lower league he has more space so we will have to wait and see. Waghorn going would be bad news - but we don't know the full story. Too many armchair managers on this site.

would some of you prefer how it was when Keane took over? loads of money spent on flops! personally i prefer this, after all this is what we were all calling for! a young up and coming manager who knows the lower leagues.

Give the bloke a chance!

People here need to cut out all the negativity: "we haven't signed any players", "only 2 weeks left", "we are taking lower league risks" and all the other comments coming through aren't helpful.

The facts are somewhat different to how people seem to think here:

(1) we have lowered our wage bill to something like a full third, massive savings. Loads of players out gives a fresh start for the club.
(2) youngsters from u23 and u18 have been looking to get games for some time. Perfect opportunity.
(3) injured players are back.
(4) Emmanuel and Rowe are back from loan
(5) tactically we will be playing a new style of football which will be invigorating and exciting to watch
(6) 5 years of mid-table football (except that one year of play-offs) is about to change.

Have a PMA (positive mental attitude) towards Hurst. He hasn't even played ONE game yet.

The question is; can you build a promotion-winning Championship team from the best of the players in League 1? Probably, you can, and it looks like we will find out this season.

Bristol Rovers fan reaction is interesting ... they are reported as "gutted" because not only is he one of the best, but he is also one of the most vocal. A lot also say that 2 years ago they didn't want to extend his contract, but he won hem round with his performances. I think that means he is capable of learning and we too should give him time. He is young and apparently has also done his fair share of stuff like visiting fans in hospital etc so it sounds like we are getting a level headed & involved player.

Sorry you guys still living in a Mick McCarthy "wonderland".......Whos he managing now??
Players coming up from the ranks is the future......Giving the youth a chance is the future.
Waggy has done "Okay"........but not spectacular, 5 to 7 mill good deal if it allows another young crop to come in and grow. Town are rebuilding

Lack of goals in the friendlies against opposition we should really be pounding is a big worry

Like the look of this guy. Scores with both feet (inside and outside the box) and with his head too. PH should know all about him as a league one player from last year so we should trust him on that. Hope the story is true.
