Town Among Clubs Linked With Accrington Striker
Wednesday, 18th Jul 2018 21:46

Town are reported to be among a number of clubs showing interest in Accrington Stanley striker Kayden Jackson.

According to HITC Sport, Rotherham and Peterborough have had bids turned down by the newly-promoted League One club for the 24-year-old, while the Blues and Preston have made enquiries.

Jackson, who scored 16 goals in 48 starts and one sub appearance last season, previously played for Paul Hurst, albeit briefly, at Grimsby during a loan spell in the first half of the 2016/17 season before the Blues boss moved on to Shrewsbury in the October.

Bradford-born Jackson started his professional career with Swindon following success in a 2013 Win a Pro Contract competition run by Samsung when a player with Albion Sports in the Northern Counties East League Division One.

While with the Robins, he had spells on loan at Swindon Supermarine and Oxford City, prior to stints with Tamworth, Wrexham and Barnsley before his loan with Grimsby and his permanent switch to his current club last summer.

Stanley are said to be after in excess of £1 million for 5ft 11in tall Jackson, who is contracted until the summer of 2019 and can play in wide roles in addition to operating down the centre.

Would be a Paul Hurst signing. Although unfortunately can't see us stumping up £1 mil, I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Sorry but not for me. Looking at career he's never set the world alight at some pretty low level teams. I know its no guarantee and maybe hes a late developer but £1m could be spent far better. See stats below -

Really annoys me when people look at stats and think it's the be all and end all.

It's gown manager perceives a certain player can fit into a team and how they can get the best out of them. Diego Costa a top player but probably wouldn't score as many for liverpool as he previously has for other clubs - because of the style of play.

Some may this as a whinge but it,s not as i think a lot of what PH has said needed to be said and implemented on , but i am a tad concerned at the level of players we are looking at for our season ahead. I think most would agree a approach of younger and / or creative players mixed in with a few seasoned heads is what we were asking for , and the youth and hungry lower league side guys seem to be about to get there shot. But my concern arises as the Champ is one of the hardest leagues around and without a good mix of shall we say "battle hardened" players we may come up wanting on the pitch , we also know we need some warm bodies in , not maybe they will be good type players but ones we can safely say will improve the current squad from the off.!! , and nothing i have seen or read to date says we are looking at the type of player. We have just shy of 5 mil money in (Webster 3.5 , Knight 1 , WC 400k) & 15 wages of the books - we have spent 700K and a unknown loan fee taking on 2 wages and a contribution maybe to the 3rd - so by simple maths we have money in the pot , if not spent of "quality" players (that does not mean higher level players) I think we may have a real battle on our hands this season as sorry to say 2 guys in mid twenties from Crawley does not scream quality to me ,wait and see but i have my concerns with packing out the team from lower divisions (neither of the guys we got were "up and coming names".

Agree entirely with shortmarine, was saying this very thing the other day when chatting about expectations this season, we all know we needed new faces and younger hungry players, however am concerned PH is looking a bit low on all new signings, the young hungry players also need to learn and be mixed with some experienced championship players. This is not League 1 and when you look at the teams we will be playing this season i get worried we may not be able to compete, would like to see an experienced CB brought in along with a proven Championship goalscoreer, would then give a good mix.

Really think we are going to be in a right mess if we keep looking at and signing these lower league players. But mainly because we need central defenders, and apart from this Tilt guy we dont see to even be linked with any. We need at least 2, and only have 3 weeks to get that done.
PH seems obsessed by wingers, but again all we have is the guy from Posh. The other one he got from Crawley isnt cutting it by all accounts, so we need at least another one. As for Garner going, if PH insists on crosses from wingers, then he is our most natural player to be up top.

i dont think we can judge the new crawley guy after 1 and half games to be honest, think its a tad unfair. we have the right balance in my opinion. got the likes of bart, chambers, skuse, waghorn and even knudsen through the spine of the team. couple of youth players in dozzell, nydam and downes. then lower league prospects filling the remaining and its not like theyre the worst players in lower leagues! look at the likes of southampton and norwich who done back to back promotions on lower league players that were hungry for success.

If you are talking about Edwards as the player from Crawley then I think our fans are going to love him! From what I saw in the second half v Crawley on Tuesday he's prepared to take players on ,is very quick dribbling with the ball , has a good cross on him and knows where the goal is. He supposedly has spent a bit of time injured in the past. That doesn't surprise me as his dribbling and pace is likely to make him a target for the oppo. Defenders don't like being skinned!

Agree with Shortmarine1969, Tractorboybeer and Crazyblue68 level headed comments in the concerns signing so many lower league players and not more Championship level or higher experienced players. No disrespect, but I don't want us to become Paul Hursts Shrewsbury 2.0. Dont get me wrong, everyone could potentially be the next Vardy and definitely worth a punt for the prices and happy with the purchases & rumours so far, but would like to see some signings from higher up with more experience, maybe out of favour players from the Prem or international equivalent. More Chalobah types etc. Would like to see or even hear about us casting our net wider than the UK too. Still positive this will happen though now the World Cup is over and sorting begins for higher positioned clubs to tidy up their books.

I am not familiar with this player, but at 5 foot 11 he doesn't seem to be quite the target man that we need.

Seems to me that we will have a very good league 1 squad of players so if we get relegated we should bounce straight back.
Still that's what some wished for relegation over McCarthy

Swn98, your wrong. I wished for anything over McCarthy. I spent too much time being bored and got neck ache.

By the way from what division did we get Paul Mariner?
