Blades Keeper Long Linked With Town and Hull City
Thursday, 12th Jul 2018 14:51

Town and Hull City are reported to be eyeing Sheffield United keeper George Long.

The 24-year-old, who spent last season on loan in League One with AFC Wimbledon, won’t be the first choice at Bramall Lane in the season ahead with the Blades having signed Dean Henderson, who played for Blues boss Paul Hurst at Shrewsbury last season, on loan from Manchester United.

According to ,the Tigers are looking for another keeper following the departure of Allan McGregor to Rangers, while the Blues could be in the market for another number one if Bartosz Bialkowski should move on.

Sheffield-born Long came through the youth system at Bramall Lane and has made 122 starts and one sub appearance for his hometown club.

In addition to last season’s spell with the Dons - 49 starts - the 6ft 4in tall former England U18 international has spent stints on loan with Oxford United and Motherwell.

Town have previously been linked with Rangers keeper Wes Foderingham, who is expected to leave Ibrox this summer, and Bolton’s Ben Amos this summer with Bialkowski potentially departing this summer.

Birmingham City have had an offer of £2.5 million turned down and are expected to come in with a further bid, while it's likely other clubs are also keen on the Polish international, who was the subject of Crystal Palace interest in January.

The Blues are understood to have made contact with the Scottish Premiership side regarding Foderingham, however, it’s not believed Town are interested in Amos despite having been made aware of the former Manchester United trainee’s availability.

Please just give Bart his improved contract. Unfortunately none of these keepers are going to be anywhere near as good as Bialkowski. He's the best keeper we have had for years.

We have given Bart an improved contract. The only question is does he want to sign it.

Getting bored of being linked with keepers no where near as good as Bart!
Where are the outfield player links?

Chenners is it because ITFC are not the first port of call for most semi decent players especially as we have an unproven manager at this level just saying imho.

Can see anything happen with Bart till is back off holiday

Hurst will need to talk to Bart about his plans for the team and if they meet Barts ambitious and maybe a improved contract on the improved contract he might just sign

Swn98... surely not still crying about Mick LOL , the only thing proven about MM was how dire his football was .
Get behind the new manager of the team you are supposed to support

If we lose Bart it's going to be difficult. So we should at least be looking to sign someone decent. Crowe is better than any of the links so far and we gave him away for free.

TonyHumesIpswich has a point; can anyone explain why we let Crowe go for free with the uncertainty over Bart? Even if the plan was to sell Bart for whatever we can get and play Gerken, we'd still need a number 2 'keeper.

I am Surco just cant see much to be optimistic about at the moment.

Swn98 you always seemed very optimistic throughout the crap times. We ain't played a proper match yet. Let's give it time and give the boss a shot at getting playing proper football and see how it goes.

Why would we sell the best keeper in the league and replace with someone who isn't wanted by Sheffield United? Cheapness? Hope this is a link and no more.

Don't forget folks that 3 years ago there was not a lot to choose between Bart and Gerks. Surprising what a run in the first team does.

Jordan Pickford comes to mind, no many thought much of him until he played regularly the first team (England)

Come on S.w.n!

Give us a chance to feel optimistic for the first few weeks of the season 😁

Did last night's England game bring back the memories of the disappointments of the last two seasons of football under Mick for you? 😉

Don't worry, you and the majority of the posters on here are entirely forgiven for feeling a bit grumpy today after last night's game.

Dont get me wrong. Im not knocking bart in any way. Hes been brilliant for us the past 3 seasons. And hes had to be to cover for our poor defending. But if hes that good why has there not been 1 bid for him from any pl team? Simple. While hes a great shotstopper, he doesnt command his area and his distribution is poor. While id like him to stay, imo if he wont sign this contract then he should be sold. And while if on a longer contract he would almost certainly be worth somewhat more, i dont think £3m would be a bad amount taking into account he could leave for nothing next summer and how little we paid for him when we signed him. And those saying anyone we got to replace him couldnt be as good seem to forget we signed him from lge 1. Yet the keepers weve been linked with so far are at championship and scottish prem lge teams. Plus if our defence is better maybe oyr gk wouldn't need to be as good anyway.

Defensively we are weaker right now. Lost Connolly, Carter-Vickers, Iorfa and gained Chalobah. We still have 21 days to change that so things may alter.

@tony....you missed out Webster. Webster, CCV, Iorfa, Connolly & Goteni (not that relevant as he was captain of the U23 and never played first team) left. Chalobah arrived....god we do need to make some signings....
