Hyam Close to Joining Southend
Monday, 2nd Jul 2018 09:52

Released Blues midfielder Luke Hyam is close to joining League One Southend United.

According to the Southend Echo, Hyam underwent a medical at Roots Hall yesterday and the Shrimpers, who were first linked with the 26-year-old at the start of last month, hope to complete the switch in the next 24 hours.

Former Northgate High School pupil Hyam announced his departure from Portman Road after 15 years at the club at the start of May.

Hyam made 118 starts and 28 sub appearances for his hometown club, scoring three goals. He spent a month on loan at Rotherham during 2015/16, making two starts and three sub appearances.

This could be a very good move for him. I hope that things work out well and that he can begin the season injury free and progress from there.

Decent player but he wasn't progressing with Ipswich. He's also had some back luck with injuries. Perhaps someone who needs to be taken a bit out of his comfort zone to progress. Good luck.

Good luck to him. Deserves another chance and he could thrive under Chris Powell.

Injuries stopped him proving he was too good for league one ... now playing there gives him another chance to prove that he can be a championship player.... hopefully he will be able to shine in the lower league and HOPEFULLY develop his attacking game a bit too? Obviously he will sink into oblivion, or shine like a diamond to be fought over by higher league clubs... I hope it's the latter :)

Like many, if he concentrates on his game and not how he looks he'll do really well
